All of us know the 9 fruits of God’s Spirit, right?
私達はみな神の御霊の九つの実をしっていますよね？
They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
愛、喜び、平和、寛容、慈愛、善意、忠実、柔和、自制で
These are characteristics of God that he wants us to also have in our lives.
神が、私たちの生活の中でも、持つようにしてほしいと願っている神の御心の特徴があります。
In Matthew 7:12 and Luke 6:31, Jesus teaches us to “do to others as you would have them do to you.
マタイによる福音書、7章12節、ルカによる福音書6章31節では、神は、あなたたちが他者にしてほしいように、他者にもしなさい。と教えています。
Many people around the world refer to this as the Golden Rule.
世界中のたくさんの人々はこれを黄金律と言います。
I believe that by following this rule, one demonstrates that they have the fruits of God’s Spirit within them.
私は、このルールに従って、彼らが、彼らの中に神の御心のお恵みを持っていると証明できると考えています。
If we want people to show love to us, we must show love to them.
もし私達がひと人に愛を示したいなら、私達 が彼らに愛を示さなければなりません。
In order for people around us to be joyous, we too must be joyous.
私達の周りの人々を楽しませるようにするには、私達ももっとたのしまなければなりません。
How can we expect peace from others if we, ourselves, are not peaceful?

Today I’d like to focus on patience.
さて今日は、寛容、忍耐についてお話します。
if you want people to be patient with you, you should be patient with them.
私たちは、また次のように言うことができます。
人々に我慢してほしいのなら、あなたも彼らに対して我慢すべきです。
In the English language, when we think of patience we usually think of the ability of being able to wait for people or things without getting upset.
英語では、寛容、忍耐を考える時、私達は普通物事や人々に対してがっかりすることなく待てることが出来る能力のことです。
There are about 100 verses in the Bible that talk about patience.
聖書のなかには、寛容、忍耐について書いてあるところが約100節もあります。
The word patience in Hebrew is “qavah” which means “to wait for, to look for, to hope, or to expect.”
ヘブライ語でpatienceはquvahといって、「待つ、探す、願う、将来のことを考える」という意味です。
As I said earlier, the fruits of God’s Spirit describe the characteristics of God.
私が先に言ったように、神の御霊の実は、神の特徴を描いています。
God is patient… particularly with us humans.
神は、忍耐強いです、特に、わたしたち人間に対してです。
God waits for us to come to Him.
神は、私たちが彼のところにやってくることを待っています。
Since He has given us free will, it is our choice whether we come to him or not.
神が、私たちに自由意思をお与えくださったので、私たちが神のところへ行くか行かないかは私たちの選択です。
He looks for people who will learn from him and follow His plan for us.
神は、神から学ぼうとする人や、私たちのための神がお創りになった計画に従う人々を探しています。
He hopes that all people will come to believe in Him and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
神は、全ての人間が彼を信じるようになること、そして天国で永遠に神と過ごせることを願っています。
And He expects certain things to happen because He also has faith in us, which is another fruit of God’s Spirit, faith.
そして、神はまた、神の御心のお恵みのひとつ、忠誠心が私たちのなかに持っておられるので、確信的なことが起きることを予測しています。
The Bible states that since God is all knowing, and this includes the past, present, and future, (then) we should trust His timing.
聖書には、こう書かれています。神がすべてを知っているので、これは、過去も現在、未来も含めてです。なので、私たちは、彼のタイミングを信用すべきです。と。
When we pray to God, sometimes the answer to our prayer does not come right away.
私たちが神に対して祈る時、ときどき、私たちの祈りの答えはすぐには来ません。
We need the patience to wait for it.
その答えを待つ忍耐力が必要です。
Sometimes we don’t understand why some things happen in our lives.
私達の人生の中で幾つか起る出来事がときどき理解出来ないことがあります。
We need the patience to look for the answer, usually in the Bible, but sometimes in other Christians.
その答えを探す忍耐力が必要です。その答えは、たいてい聖書に、しかし、ときどき、他のクリスチャンのなかにあります。
Sometimes we feel like giving up when things get tough and we feel hopeless.
ときには、辛くて、希望が見えなくてあきらめたい気持ちになることもあります。
At this time we need the patience to hope for better things in the future.
こんなとき、未来はよくなるんだという希望を持つ忍耐力が必要です。
God makes many promises for those who believe in Him, so we need to be patient and expect these promises to come true.
神は神を信じる者達にたくさんの約束をします。だから、私たちは寛容に、その約束が叶うように、期待する必要があります。
Without God in your heart, it is near impossible to do the above.
あなたのこころに神がいなければ、そのようなことをするのは、不可能に近いでしょう。
But by believing in God and having Him in your heart, having this kind of patience is possible.
でも、神を信じ、あなたの心に神がいれば、このように我慢することは可能です。
And if we can be patient with God in this way, we can also be patient with other humans in our daily lives.
そして、このように神と我慢することができれば、日常生活の中でも他の人々と我慢することができます。
We need to learn to wait for people who may be slower than we’d like them to be.
私たちが願うよりもゆっくりかもしれない人々を待つことを学ぶ必要があります。
This includes driving behind really slow drivers with the beginner driver’s mark on their car.
このことは、初心者マークの運転手がとてもゆっくり走ることと同じです。
We need to learn to be patient when looking for things, like a job.
私たちは、仕事を探すとき、忍耐強くなることを学ぶ必要があります。
To look for opportunities that will glorify God in everything we do.
私達が行う全てに神を賛美する機会を探します
And to hope we will find what we are searching for and to hope that is also what God wants for us.
そして、あなたにとって最もよい仕事を見つけること、また、他のあらゆるあなたが求めているが見つかるように願って
As I mentioned earlier, there are about 100 verses in the Bible that talk about patience. I’d like to share one with you today.
聖書のなかには、忍耐について書いてあるところが約100節もあります。しかし、今日は、時間の関係上、ひとつしか紹介できません。
Romans 15:4-5 “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus.”
ローマの信徒への手紙 第 15 章
4 これまでに書かれた事がらは、すべてわたしたちの教のために書かれたのであって、それは聖書の与える忍耐と慰めとによって、望みをいだかせるためである。
5 どうか、忍耐と慰めとの神が、あなたがたに、キリスト・イエスにならって互に同じ思いをいだかせ、
“To be like-minded toward one another.” Here it is again, the Golden rule.
ここに黄金律があります。
And to really understand all of this, you need look no further than the Bible. “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning.”
そして、このことのすべてを本当に理解するために、聖書以上のものを見る必要はありません。
I hope and pray that through this Christmas and New Years season, we can all find time to wait, look for, hope, and expect wonderful things to happen from God in our lives.
このクリスマスとお正月を通して私達は忍耐、探すこと、希望、全てを理解しそして私達の人生の中で素晴らしいものが神から起こる事を期待 し祈り願います。
As well as have patience with our family members, friends, and those we meet in our neighborhoods, on the streets, and even on the busy subways and trains.
家族や友達、隣人、路上や忙しい地下鉄の電車
