We love superheroes. Why? Why do we love superheroes? 私たちはスーパーヒーローがが大好きです。なぜ。なぜ私たちはスーパーヒーローが大好きな んでしょうか。
We have a deep desire to be saved.

We have a knowledge that something is not quite right with our world. Something is not quite right with our lives. 私たちは、何かが私たちの世界に全く相応しくないということを知っています。何かが私たち の生活に全く相応しくありません。

We have a beautiful world but it is filled with corruption and brokenness.
– And so we see the most stunning sunrises and the most devastating typhoons.
– We have the beauty of marriage and family but we also have the dread of domestic abuse and divorce.
– We have the security of good government but we also have the horrors of wars between nations.
– We have the blessing of good food to eat and good health but we also have terrible gluttony and starvation and disease.
● We have the wonder of speech and the blight of verbal abuse
● We have the joy of prosperity and the despair of poverty
– We have the warmth of generosity and the cold of selfishness
● We have the beauty of trust and the ugliness of lies
● We have the miracle of birth and the anguish of death
– We have this enormous capacity for love and seemingly an equally enormous capacity for hatred.
Ours is a beautiful world. But it is a broken world. 私たちの世界は美しい世界です。しかし壊れてしまった世界です。 The Bible calls these corruptions and this brokenness ‘sin’. 聖書では、これらの堕落と壊れた状態を「罪」と呼んでいます。
And sometimes we like to kid ourselves that we’re getting better. Our education is making us better people. We are making a better world.
But in the last century we have seen more people die in war than ever before in human history. We have seen more destruction of our environment; more disparity between the rich and the poor; a greater disregard for human life than ever before through murder, suicide and abortion; more selfishness and less generosity despite being wealthier than any generation before us; we have great scientific advances yet our moral state is no better than it’s ever been, and is possibly worse. ときに私たちは私たち自身が良くなってきていると冗談めかしていうことを好みます。私たち の教育は私たちをより良い人間にします。私たちはより良い世界を作っています。 しかしこの一世紀の間で私たちは歴史上もっとも多い数の戦争による犠牲者を見てきました。 環境の破壊、貧富の格差、殺人からわかる命の軽視、自殺、中絶、今までの世代の人々より健 康であるにも関わらずわがままで寛容的でないことなどを見てきました。科学は素晴らしい進 歩を遂げていますが、私たちのモラルに変わりはなくおそらくより悪くなっているでしょう。
We can’t escape this corruption and brokenness by our own doing. Because our own doing is corrupt and broken. And thinking that we can escape on our own is the root of the problem. (Pride!) この堕落と壊れた状態から自分たちで何とかして逃げることはできません。なぜなら私たちの 行いが堕落して壊れているからです。そして私たちが自分たちで逃れることができると考える ことが、問題の原因なのです。
The only way that we can escape the brokenness and sin of this world is to seek the kingdom of heaven. 私たちが壊れた状態とこの世界の罪から逃れることのできる唯一の方法は、天国の王国を探し 求めることです。
But Jesus said, “You can’t enter the Kingdom of heaven”. John 3:3a

We’re sinful and heaven is sinless. So we can’t enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jesus was speaking to a good man when he said this. A religious leader, a community leader. Even the good people of this broken world cannot enter the kingdom of heaven because their sins and brokenness separate them from a holy and sinless God.

But just as the holiness of God can only bring separation between Him and sinful people, so the love of God can only work to bring people back to Him. しかし神が聖であることが罪深い人々と神との間に隔たりをもたらすように、神の愛は人々を 神に立ち返らせることができるのです。
Jesus came from heaven. He said “You cannot enter the kingdom of heaven unless you are born again. John 3:3 イエスは天国から帰ってきました。彼は言いました、だれでも新しく生れなければ、神の国を 見ることはできない
If you’re wondering what this means you’re in good company. Even the great Nicodemus couldn’t understand what Jesus was talking about. もしあなたがこの意味が何なのかと不思議に思っているなら、あなたには良い仲間がいます。 偉大なるニコデモでさえイエスが話していたことを理解することができませんでした。
“Am I supposed to climb back into my mothers womb and come out again?” he asked. John 3:4 もう一度、母の胎にはいって生れることができましょうかと彼は尋ねました。（ヨハネの福音 書３章４節）
I suspect Jesus was quite repulsed at the thought of this.
イエスはこの考えに嫌悪感を抱いたのではないかと私は思います。
“No, no!” he said. “Nicodemus, what are you talking about? Noone can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5

The water refers to cleansing repentance from sin, and dying to our old lives through baptism and rising to a new life. The Spirit refers to the Holy Spirit of God who enters our hearts when we turn to Jesus in faith and repentance.
水は清めることを意味します- 罪からの悔い改め、洗礼を通して以前の人生は死に、新しい命 へと立ち上がることです。御霊は、信仰をもって悔い改めイエスに立ち返るとき、私たちの心 に入ってくださる神の聖霊のことを意味します。
Being born again is not just a matter of changing our lifestyle, yet leaving the nature of our heart unchanged.
Similarly, being born again is not just a matter of having some sort of spiritual experience that leaves us feeling good but without any change in our lives. もう一度生まれることは単に私たちの人生を変えるということではなく、私たちの心の本質を 変えないままでいることではありません。 同様に、もう一度生まれることは私たちの人生に何の変化ももたらすことなく良い気持ちにさ せるようなスピリチュアルな体験をするということでもありません。
Being born again is a total change: from within born of the Spirit of God; and from without we commit to following Jesus and living a Christlike life. 新しく生まれるということは完全に変わるということです：内側からー神の御霊によって生ま れる；外側からーイエスに従うことを決意し、キリストが生きたような人生を送る。
That’s what it means to be born again. And when we’re born again, we’re saved. Saved from sin. Saved unto God. Saved from sin. Saved unto God.
それがもう一度生まれるということの意味です。そして私たちがもう一度生まれるとき、私た ちは救われます。罪から救われる。神へと救われる。
But unlike the fictional superheroes we began with, Jesus was a true historical figure.
He lived and breathed and ate and slept and bled and cried and laughed just like anyone else. But unlike anyone else, he [Jesus] never sinned. 彼[イエス]は一度も罪を犯さなかった。 Unlike anyone else, He [Jesus] was the Son of God. 彼[イエス]は神の御子であった。
Unlike anyone else, He [Jesus] was the only way for us to finally escape the sin and brokenness of this world. 彼[イエス]は唯一の道であった。 しかし、冒頭でお話しした架空のスーパーヒーローと違って、イエスは実際の歴史上の人物で す。
彼は私たちのように生き、息をし、食べ、寝て、血を流し、泣き、笑いました。 しかし私たちと違って彼[イエス]は一度も罪を犯さなかった。 私たちと違って彼[イエス]は神の御子であった。 私たちと違って、彼[イエス]はこの世界の罪と壊れた状態から私たちが脱出することを可能に する唯一の道であった。
That’s a big claim. How do we really know this is true? How can we be sure? それが大きな主張です。いかにして私たちはこれが真実であると知るのでしょうか。どのよう にして私たちは確信するのでしょう。
Sure, there were lots of signs. Jesus fulfilled a staggering hundreds of old testament prophecies regarding the Saviour. Sure, he gave us amazing teachings which literally changed the world. Sure, he performed miracles which noone could do if they were not from God. もちろん、多くの証拠がありました。イエスは救世主に関する実に多くの予言を的中させまし た。イエスは世界を変える素晴らしい教えを私たちに説きました。イエスは誰もができないよ うな奇跡を起こしました。
But beyond this, Jesus proved the truth of His words by His resurrection. Jesus died and three days later rose again. This is the great Christian miracle. This is what we will be celebrating next Sunday and with good reason! We follow a risen a risen Lord! しかしこれを超えて、イエスはご自身が言ったことの真実を復活によって証明したのです。イ エスは亡くなった三日後に生き返ったのです。これが偉大なクリスチャンの奇跡です。私たち は来週の日曜日にこれを祝います。良い理由のために。私たちはよみがえった主に従うのです

And the invitation to follow this risen Jesus and escape the sin and brokenness of this world, is for everyone. 蘇ったイエスに従いこの世界の罪と破壊から逃げることへの招待は、みなに向けられたもので す。
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 イエスは言いました、「神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、この世を愛して下さった。それ は御子を信じる者がひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。（ヨハネ３章１６節）
Let me briefly explain three things here before I finish.
1. For God so loved the world. 神は実に世を愛された The world. That doesn’t mean a few select people who go to church every Sunday. It means the world. It means the British and the Japanese and the Russians and the Angolans and the Brazilians and even the Australians; it means the rich and the poor; it means students and businessmen and housewives and the elderly; it means nuns and prostitutes and priests and pimps; drug addicts and health nuts: alcoholics and tea drinkers; the selfish and the generous; the mentally disturbed and the disabled; gangsters, fraudsters, internet spammers and even English teachers. God so loved the whole world. Noone is above or beyond the grace of God.神の恵みが届かない人はいない。
2. That whoever believes in Him.御子を信じる者は誰でも This belief is not a mere recognition that it is true. It is an active belief that says “I’m going to give my life to this Jesus and be born again”.
3. Shall not perish but have eternal life 滅びることなく、永遠の命を持つ Eternal life. That means forever. Forever without pain or suffering or crying or loss. Forever with God.
最後に、３つのことを簡潔に説明させてください。 神は実に世を愛された。これは毎週教会に行く選ばれた人たちを意味するのではありません
。世界を意味します。イギリス、日本、ロシア、アンゴラ、ブラジル、オーストラリアの人々 を意味します。裕福な人と貧しい人、学生、ビジネスマン、主婦、お年寄りの人々を意味しま す；修道女、売春婦、神父、売春の斡旋業者を意味します；薬物中毒者、健康オタク；アル中
、お茶の愛飲者；わがままな人、寛容な人；精神的に病んでいる人；やから、詐欺師、迷惑メ ールを送る人、英語教師もです。 神は世界全体を実に愛しました。神の恵みが届かない人はいない。
御子を信じる者は誰でも それが本当だと単に認識することではありません。「私はイエス に人生を託し、もう一度生まれる」と信じることです。
滅びることなく、永遠の命を持つ。これは永遠を意味します。痛み、苦しみ、涙、何も失わ ない永遠。神との永遠。
I want to be straight with you. It would be wrong of me to only give you half the truth. Because just as believing in Jesus gives us eternal life, so not believing in Jesus leads us to eternal death. And ‘no decision’ is a “no” decision. 私はあなたたちにはっきり申し上げます。真実の半分しかあなた方にお教えしないのは間違っ ているます。なぜならイエスを信じれば私たちには永遠の命が与えられ、イエスを信じなけれ ば私たちには永遠の死がもたらされるからです。決断をしないということは、“ノー”の決断を しているということです。
Jesus said, “Whoever believes in me is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:18
イエスは言いました、彼を信じる者は、さばかれない。信じない者は、すでにさばかれている
。神のひとり子の名を信じることをしないからである。（ヨハネ３章１８節）
So this evening I want to give you the opportunity to believe in the name of Jesus, to turn from your sin and to give your life to Him and receive the promise of the Holy Spirit.
I want to give you the opportunity to escape from the brokenness of this world and the eternal death of the next, and to receive the fullness of joy in this life and everlasting life in the next. ですから今晩はイエスの御名を信じ、罪から立ち返り、あなたの人生を神にゆだね、聖霊の約 束を受け入れる機会を提供したいのです。この世の壊れた状態と来たる永遠の死から逃げ、今 の人生を喜びで満たし、来たる永遠の命を受け入れる機会を提供したいのです。
In a minute I will ask you all to come forward and receive the elements of communion. The bread and the wine are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus Christ and taking them marks a person’s entrance into and belonging to the body of Christ and the life of His church. If you have never taken communion before but tonight would like to repent and give your life to Jesus and receive new life through Him, I invite you to come forward with the others and receive
prayer and the elements. このあとすぐに聖餐式にあずかるよう前に出てきてもらいます。パ ンとぶどう酒はイエス・キリストの体と血の象徴で、それらを受けることによりキリストの体 とキリストの教会生活に属します。今までに聖餐式を受けたことがないけれども、今初めてこ の祈りを祈り、キリストに人生をゆだねた方は、いっしょに前に出てきて祈ってもらい聖餐に あずかってください。
