We’ve been studying the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It’s time to discover the gifts of the Spirit. I’m going to send you a ‘Spiritual Gifts Test’ by email. I’d like you to very prayerfully complete it this week. Once you have completed it, it gives you the option of forwarding the results by email to someone. I am that someone. Please forward your results to me. I would then like to put them all together in a kind of big church ‘map’ of spiritual gifts, so that we can all learn not only what our spiritual gifts are but also in what capacity we can best use them and, most importantly, in what manner we can use them.
御霊の賜物を学んできていますが、これから御霊の賜物を発見していきましょう。Eメールで‘御霊の賜物テスト’を送りますから、今週よく祈ってそれをやってみてください。それを終えたら、その結果をメールで誰かに転送するという選択欄があります。その誰かというのは私です。結果を私に転送してください。私はそれを御霊の賜物の大きな教会‘地図’のようなものにまとめたいと思っています。そうすれば私たちの賜物が分かるだけでなく、どの範囲で最も用いることができるか、そしていちばん大切なのは、どのように用いるかです。
The test results will look something like this (these are mine):

The other leaders have already completed the test. And as we have done so, one thing has become very clear: this is a flawed test. It completely ignores some gifts and overemphasizes others. I looked at other tests and they all seem to have similar flaws in one area or another. I take this as a positive. It reminds us that we are never really going to definitively discover our spiritual gifts by doing an online test. The true discovery of spiritual gifts will come through personal conviction in prayer, studying of the scriptures, confirmation through the body of Christ (especially the leadership), and confirmation through the use of the gifts. So this test should be considered useful as food for thought, as something to pray over and seek out and to try putting into practice.
他のリーダーたちもこのテストをすでにしました。その結果、あることが明らかになりました。これは不完全なテストだということです。ある賜物を全く無視するし、別の賜物を過度に重視します。ほかのテストを見てみても、どれもみんなよく似た欠点がどこかにあるようです。これはいいことだと思っています。オンラインのテストをして御霊の賜物を決定的に発見するということはないということです。御霊の賜物が本当に何であるかの発見は、祈りにうちに個人に示されること、聖書を学ぶこと、キリストの体（特にリーダーシップ）からの確信、賜物を用いることからの確信からきます。なのでこのテストは考えるべきこととして役立つし、祈り求めること、実行してみることと見なされるべきです。
What’s key is that we don’t just discover our spiritual gifts but that we put them to good use. In the right way. At the right time.
大切なことは、御霊の賜物を発見するだけでなく、それを有効に用いるということです。正しいやり方で、正しい時に。
Here’s something that I predict:
Some of us will discover that we are not gifted where we thought we were gifted, and we are gifted in areas in which we didn’t think we were gifted. This means that it is likely some of us will be changing our areas of ministry. This requires humility, patience, love and God-centredness. So as we go on this journey of discovery together, let’s remember to be humble but bold, unhurried in prayer yet sensitive to the urgency of the Spirit, careful and courageous.
私はこうなると予想しています：
この賜物を持っていると思っていたのにそうでなかったり、その逆だったりという人が出てくるでしょう。ということはミニストリーを変える人が出てくるということになります。これには謙遜、忍耐、愛、神を中心にするということが必要となります。ですからいっしょに賜物を発見していくにあたり、謙遜でありなお大胆、急がずに祈るが聖霊の緊急性には敏感である、慎重であり勇敢であることを忘れないようにしましょう。
To prepare us for this, I would like us to take a walk through Romans chapter 12 because it addresses gifts of the Spirit in the context of living the whole Christian life.
これを始める準備としてローマ人への手紙12章を読んでみたいと思います。なぜならこの章は御霊の賜物をクリスチャン生活のすべてにおいて当てはめているからです。
Romans 12:1-2 (Intro)
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
1 兄弟たちよ。そういうわけで、神のあわれみによってあなたがたに勧める。あなたがたのからだを、神に喜ばれる、生きた、聖なる供え物としてささげなさい。それが、あなたがたのなすべき霊的な礼拝である。
2 あなたがたは、この世と妥協してはならない。むしろ、心を新たにすることによって、造りかえられ、何が神の御旨であるか、何が善であって、神に喜ばれ、かつ全きことであるかを、わきまえ知るべきである。
Our life in Christ begins with sacrifice and with transformation. We give our lives to God, He then transforms our hearts and our minds so that we delight in conforming to His will. This is how we come to be “in Christ”.
キリストのうちにある私たちの人生はささげることと変えられることから始まります。人生を神にささげれば、神が私たちの心と思いを変えてくださり、神の御心に従うことが喜びとなります。このように私たちは“キリストのうちにある”ようになるのです。
This transforming and conforming serves to both bring out our individuality and at the same time bind us together in unity. That is one of the beauties of Christian community. It enhances our uniqueness and it also strengthens our common faith in Christ. Paul explains:
この変えられることと従うことは個性を伸ばすと同時に私たちを一つにしてくれます。それはクリスチャンコミュニティーの美の一つです。私たちの独自性を高めるし、キリストにある共通の信仰を強めます。パウロは以下のように説明しています：
Romans 12::3-8 (Gifts)
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
3 わたしは、自分に与えられた恵みによって、あなたがたひとりびとりに言う。思うべき限度を越えて思いあがることなく、むしろ、神が各自に分け与えられた信仰の量りにしたがって、慎み深く思うべきである。
4 なぜなら、一つのからだにたくさんの肢体があるが、それらの肢体がみな同じ働きをしてはいないように、
5 わたしたちも数は多いが、キリストにあって一つのからだであり、また各自は互に肢体だからである。

When we are in Christ, God equips us uniquely to glorify God and to edify others. He gives each of us different gifts, according to His wonderful wisdom, and He does it all that we might serve together. We are many but we are one. We are unique but we are also in unity.
キリストのうちにあれば、神は私たちが神をあがめ、人を教化できるようにしてくださいます。神のすばらしい知恵によって私たち一人ひとりに違った賜物を与え、そうすることで私たちが共に仕えることができるようにしてくださいます。私たちは大勢ですが、ひとつです。私たちは一人ひとり異なりますが、一体となっています。
Romans 12:9-16 (Love)
Do you remember two weeks ago when we studied Paul’s teaching to the Corinthian church on spiritual gifts and he suddenly ‘cut!’ in the middle to talk about love? He does it again here in Romans 12! He starts teaching about spiritual gifts and then – it’s as though he just can’t help it – he then goes straight into talking about love and how, in using the gifts of the Spirit, we are to live out our Christian lives:

Today is a family service. I would like you to explain each of these from Romans 12:9-16 as though you were explaining it to a child.
今日は家族礼拝の日です。ローマ12:9-16を子供に説明するかのように説明してみてください。
Love must be sincere. One measure of sincerity is time. Give time to those you love.
愛には偽りがあってはならない。誠実さを示すことの一つは時間です。愛する人たちのために時間をさきましょう。
Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Apply this to your choice of entertainment.
悪は憎み退け、善には親しみ結び、これを娯楽を選ぶときに適用してみてください。
Be devoted to one another in love. Devotion involves priorities. Prioritise people over activities.
兄弟の愛をもって互にいつくしみ、献身には何を優先するかが関わってきます。活動よりも人を優先しましょう。
Honor one another above yourselves. Be more concerned for the reputation and success of others than you are for yourself.
進んで互に尊敬し合いなさい。自分のことより人の評判や成功のことを思いなさい。
Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Zeal is dangerous when it is not godly. Zeal is good when it is godly. Be zealous for the kingdom of God.
熱心で、うむことなく、霊に燃え、主に仕え 熱意は神の御心にそっていなければ危険なものとなります。神の御心にそっていればいいのです。神の御国のために熱心でありましょう。
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. This is a worldview to be held in every situation. At work, at home, at church, at leisure, be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
12 望みをいだいて喜び、患難に耐え、常に祈りなさい。 これはどんな状況にも見られる世界観です。仕事場で、家で、教会で、レジャーで望みをいだいて喜び、患難に耐え、常に祈りなさい。
Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. There is a special generosity we share with our faith family.
貧しい聖徒を助け 信仰をともにする家族には特に寛大になります。
Practice hospitality. Yet we share our lives with anyone in need.
務めて旅人をもてなしなさい。ですが困っている人なら誰とでも分かち合います。
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. This is one of the distinguishing marks of the Christian. It sets us aside. It makes us Christlike.
あなたがたを迫害する者を祝福しなさい。祝福して、のろってはならない。これはクリスチャンの特徴的なことの一つです。私たちが他の人たちとは違うところです。 私たちをキリストのようにします。
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. This is the practical result of honouring one another in love.
喜ぶ者と共に喜び、泣く者と共に泣きなさい。これは互いを愛をもって尊敬しあう実際的結果です。
Live in harmony with one another. Harmony is not just for peace. It is for power. When we are in one accord, the Spirit of God moves.
互に思うことをひとつにし 調和は平和のためだけではありません。力のためです。私たちが調和していれば、神の御霊がはたらきます。
Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. There is no favouritism in Christianity. Professor, judge, baker, doctor, pastor, student or candlestick maker – we are a fellowship of the forgiven, and our earthly positions are of no consequence.
高ぶった思いをいだかず、かえって低い者たちと交わるがよい。キリスト教にはえこひいきはありません。教授、裁判官、パン職人、医者、牧師、学生、ろうそく職人ーみんな赦された者たちの交わりであり、この世の地位は重要ではないのです。
Do not be conceited. Because where there is conceit, there is no room for love.
There is a conclusion to all this teaching and direction and it comes in the final verse of the chapter:
自分が知者だと思いあがってはならない。思いあがりがあるところには、愛がないからです。この教えすべての結論は、この章の最後の節にあります。
(21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
悪に負けてはいけない。かえって、善をもって悪に勝ちなさい。
This is how we use the gifts. This is the blueprint for Christian living. This is what I would like you to prayerfully and faithfully keep in mind and employ as we discover and use our spiritual gifts.
このように私たちは賜物を用いるのです。これがクリスチャン人生の設計図です。御霊の賜物を発見し、用いるにあたり、このことを祈りをもって忠実に心に留め、取り入れていってほしいのです。
Let me conclude by giving you a summary of the Christian life, as taught by Paul here in Romans 12.
