Exception Clauses

Last week we looked at exception clauses. For example:

We looked at how we use them – intentionally or unintentionally – to excuse ourselves from living a life of obedience to God.
「完全に謙虚で優しい

Today I’d like to look at some of the exception clauses we use – intentionally or otherwise – to deny ourselves the promises of God. Whether because of a poor self-image, current circumstances, previous experiences, a misunderstanding of scripture, or simply from a lack of faith, it’s easy to feel that somehow God’s promises don’t apply to us.
今日私は、神の約束をあえて否定するための言い訳を使っている免除、例外条件のいくつかを見ていきたいと思います。自信がなかったり、現状に影響されたり、過去の経験や、聖書を間違って解釈している、あるいは単に信仰心に欠けているせいで、神様が私たちに約束してくれたこと、例えば「愛」や「備え」が私たちには起こらない、関係ないと、すぐ感じてしまうのです。

Let’s have a look at some:

1. Love

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.

Does not apply to those who have experienced any form of moral failure. God cannot love you.

2. Forgiveness
   許し

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Exception clause

A general truth that does not apply to you. Your sins are in another category. God will never forgive what you have done.

3. Purpose
   目的

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Exception clause
この箇所が例外条項になった時、次のようになります。

Does not apply to you. God has no particular plan for your life. You will just bumble along aimlessly.
この箇所が例外になった時は、次のようになります。
あなたには当てはまりません。神はあなたの人生のための計画は特に持っておられません。あなたはあてもなく、さまようだけでしょう。

4. Gifting
   賜物

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7

ところで、神様は私たちに、いろいろな種類の賜物を与えてくださっていますが、みな聖霊から出たものです。神への奉仕はいろいろですが、私たちは同一の主に仕えているのです。神様は私たちの生活の中で、いろいろな方法で働きかけてくださいます。しかし、神のものとされた私たちの中で、また私たちを通してお働きになるのは、ただひとりの神です。聖霊は、教会全体の利益のために、私たちを通して神の力を現してくださるのです。

Exception clause

Does not apply to you. God has no use for you whatsoever.
あなたには当てはまりません。あなたにとって、神は何の役にも立たないのです。

5. Healing
   癒し

Scripture
聖書

Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.
James 5:14,15

病気の人はいませんか。その人は教会の長老を招き、主が治してくださるように、油を注いで祈ってもらいなさい。 15 その祈りが信仰によってささげられたものなら、病気は治るでしょう。もし病気の原因が罪によるものなら、主はその罪を赦してくださいます。
ヤコブの手紙 5:14-15

Exception clause

Does not apply to anyone anymore. Those days are gone. Just go to the doctor.
もう誰にも当てはまりません。そんな日々は過去の話です。現代では医者に行ってください。

(There’s nothing at all wrong with going to the doctor, but praying for the sick should be our first action, and an area where we see God working.)
（医者に行くことは何も間違っていませんが、病気のために祈ることは、私たちが最初にとる行動であり、祈りにより神の働きを見ることができます）。

6. Quality of Life
   良い人生

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Exception clause
この箇所が例外条項になった時、次のようになります。

Only applies to a few lucky ones. Certainly doesn’t apply to you. You will only ever have an average life at best. The thief will get you in the end.
幸運な者にのみ当てはまります。確かにあなたには当てはまりません。あなたは平凡な一生を手に入れるのが関の山でしょう。最終的には、強盗に狙われることになります。

7. Presence
   降臨

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Exception clause
この箇所が例外条項になった時、次のようになります。

Obviously hyperbole. Jesus is not going to be present all the time, and certainly not with you. He might drop in from time to time if you’re lucky.
明らかに誇大表現です。イエスはいつになっても現れず、あなたと一緒にいないのは明らかです。あなたの運が良ければ、イエスに会えるかもしれません。

I raise all of these promises and their exception clauses in their categories – love, forgiveness, purpose, gifting, healing, quality of life and presence – to expose the lies that we are told and that we believe.
私は、神の約束についての例外条件を、愛、許し、目的、賜物、癒し、人生、臨在などに当てはめてみたとき、私たちが実は「嘘」をつかれていて、私たちはその「嘘」を信じているのだということがわかります。

Satan is real. He is the father of lies, and he wants you to believe these exception clauses. He wants you to believe that the promises of God aren’t true or even if they are, they don’t apply to you. Don’t believe it.
サタン、悪魔は本当にいます。彼は嘘の父であり、あなたにこれらの例外を信じて欲しいと思っています。悪魔は、あなたが「神の約束が真実でない」と信じることを望んでいます。たとえ神の約束が本当であっても、あなたが、自分には当てはまらない、自分は例外だと思ってしまうことを望んでいます。ですから、そんな例外を信じてはいけません。

If you believe there are exception clauses for the promises of God, then basically you don’t believe the promises of God. As such, you’ll never pray for them, and you’ll settle for something far smaller and far less satisfying in your life.
あなたが神の約束のために、免除や例外があると信じるのなら、根本的に神の約束を信じていないことになります。あなたは決して、神の約束のために祈ることはなく、人生において、とても小さなことに満足して何となく漫然と生活してしまうのです。

God isn’t playing games with you. He wants you to understand his will, his purpose, and his plan for your life. He wants you to receive all the riches of heaven in your life.
神はあなたと駆け引きをしているわけではありません。神は、あなたの人生における神の意図、目的、そして計画をあなたに理解してほしいと思っているのです。神はあなたの人生の中で天国の豊かさをすべて受け取って欲しいと思っているのです。

In our midweek meetings with the mission team this week, one of the things we have focussed on is going beyond a head knowledge of God’s love and moving on to an experiential knowledge of God’s love.
The same is true of God’s power. It’s one thing to say that we believe in the power of God to work wonders and change lives, it’s another to experience that power personally.
今週、ミッションチームとの週末のミーティングの中で、私たちは、「神の愛」を頭で理解するというような「知識」を超えて、神の愛を「経験」することに変えていくことに焦点を当てていかなければいけないという話が出ました。

Consider this from Ephesians 1:3:
エペソ人への手紙1章3

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3

主イエス・キリストの父なる神がほめたたえられますように。神は、天上のあらゆる祝福をもって、私たちを祝福してくださいました。それは、私たちがキリストのものとなっているからです。
エペソ人への手紙1:3

There is no exception clause here. God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. It’s not just some of us, some of the time with some of the blessings. It’s all of us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. I want us to seek and pray on the basis of this truth. I want us to continue stepping out in faith on the basis of this truth.
ここに例外はありません。神様はキリストのすべての霊的な祝福で私たちを祝福してくれました。それは、私たちの「一部」の人たちだけに祝福してくれるのでもなければ、「時々」祝福してくれるということでもありません。天におけるあらゆる霊的な祝福をもって、私たち「全員」を祝福してくれます。私は、この真実を基盤にして、みなさんが神を求め、祈ることを願っています。この真実を基盤にして、みなさんが信仰への道をあゆみ続けることを願っています。

Consider this from Ephesians 1:17-21

That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

This is mind-bogglingly lavish and overwhelming. But the essence of it is that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us. No exception clauses. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us.
この箇所では、いろんなことが、ふんだんに表現されていて圧倒させられます。ここでは、死者からイエスを甦らせたのと同じ力を、私たちにも使うことができるということが書いてあるのです。例外となる条件はありません。死者からイエスを甦らせたのと同じ力を、私たちにも使うことができるようにしてくれたのです。

• The power to comprehend the magnitude of God’s love.
  神の愛の大きさを理解する力
• The power to ask for and to receive forgiveness, and to forgive others completely.
  許しを求めたり受けたり、他人を完全に赦したりする力
• The power to fulfill the purposes that God has for you.
  神があなたのために持っている、目的を果たす力
• The power to receive and use in love gifts of the Holy Spirit.
  聖霊の愛の賜物を受け取り、その賜物を使う力
• The power to heal the sick.
  病気を治す力
• The power to resist the devil and live a full life.
  悪魔に抵抗して一生懸命働く力
• The power to walk with God on a daily basis.
  毎日、神と共に歩む力

Let’s spend some time in quiet prayer, claiming these promises and praying on them. Feel free to pray with the person next to you in pairs, or on your own, whichever you like. Let’s pray in the Spirit and claim the promises of God for our lives.
静かな祈りの時間を過ごし、神の約束のために大いに祈りましょう。隣人と共に、または一人で、自由に祈ってください。霊を感じて祈り、私たちの人生のために、そして神の約束のために大いに祈りましょう。
