One of my favourite accounts in the whole Bible, is from 2 Kings 6 where the enraged King of Aram has sent an army to destroy Elisha and the Jewish population with him. ‘When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.
聖書での私の気に入り話の一つは、列王記下６章からです。怒りに満ちたアラム王がエリシャとユダヤ人を倒すために軍を送る場面です。 “翌朝早く、預言者のしもべが起きて外に出ると、馬と戦車で固めた大軍がぐるりと町を包囲していました。若いしもべは思わず、「わあっ、ご主人様！ ど、どうしたらよいでしょう」と大声で叫びました。
God’s army then strikes Aram’s army with blindness and defeats them.
This morning, I pray that God will open your eyes to see that ‘those who are with us are more than those who are with them’.
今朝、私は、神様が「私たちの軍勢は彼らよりも多く、強いのだから」と祈りたいと思います。

This morning, I would like to look at the church at Antioch from three passages.
今日は、この三つの聖書の部分を元にアンテオケの教会を見てみたいです。

The first is from Acts 11.
一つ目は使徒行伝の11章からです。
By the grace of God and the faithful work of disciples who were filled with the Spirit, Antioch enjoyed tremendous growth. Now Antioch was a large commercial hub. It had a population of up to 500,000 in those days. There were people from all over the known world there.
神の愛と精霊に満ちた使徒の忠実な働きのおかげで、アンテオケは素晴らしい成長を楽しめた。当時、アンテオケは大きな商業の中枢でした。人口は５0万人でした。そして、世界中からの人々がそこにいました。
As the church expanded and diversified ethnically and culturally, it came to be known as the cradle of Christianity, and was in many ways a model church in New Testament times, as it remains for churches today. I believe MIC is similar to the Antioch church in many ways, and we would do well to model our growth on that of the church at Antioch.
アンテオケの教会が民族的にも文化的にも大きくなり、キリスト教の発祥の地と呼ばれ、新聖書当時も今現在も「模範となる教会」であった。そして、私は、アンテオケの教会と私たちのこの箕面国際教会がすごく似ていると思うので、私たちの今後の成長もアンテオケの教会を見習って行くべきだと思います。
I see MIC as a growing hub for believers and seekers of all nationalities coming together to learn about Jesus, to believe in Him, receive Him, worship Him and be filled with His Spirit for personal edification as well as for service.
箕面国際教会はあらゆる国籍の信者、求道者がイエスについて学び、イエスを信じ、受け入れ、礼拝し、聖霊に満たされるために集まってくる成長している拠点だと私は思っています。
The takeaway from this passage is that if we are to see our church grow as the church at Antioch grew, we need to have members who are literally full of the Holy Spirit, as Barnabas and the other believers there were. So as a top priority, be filled with the Spirit.
聖霊に満たされる。 この章から学べるものは、この教会は当時のアンテオケ教会と同じく成長をしたいなら、私たちのメンバーもバルナバや他の信者と同じく精霊に満たされる必要がある。従って、優先するべきものは…….

The second passage referring to Antioch is from Acts 13
二つ目の使徒行伝の13章からです
The church at Antioch were losing two key leaders, but they didn’t hesitate to obey the Spirit. They didn’t fear for their church. They trusted that God knew what He was doing.
アンテオケの教会は二人の大事なリーダーを失うことになっていたが、彼らは精霊に従うことを躊躇わなかった教会のために恐ることはなかった。神様がやっていたことに信用していた。
Two things happened as a result: those two key leaders were blessed as they went and saw the Kingdom of God expand in mighty ways; and, the church at Antioch continued to grow and be an important base for the Christian faith.
その結果、二つのことが起こった。その2人の主要なリーダーたちは祝福されていました。 アンテオケの教会は成長し続けていきました。 そして、キリスト教の大事な拠点となった。
We can see a parallel here with MIC again. Our church here in Minoh is soon to ‘lose’ two key leaders: Pastor Mike and I will soon be moving on. But this church needs to look beyond the immediate weeks and months of the transition, just as the church at Antioch did in theirs.
また、ここにも箕面国際教会との似ているところがある。この教会も、もうちょったで二人のリーダーを失うことになる。マイク牧師と私は去っていきます。しかし、この教会も来る週や月を超えて、アンテオケの教会と同じく、未来へ見て欲しいです。
Pastor Mike’s message last week about expanding your vision was spot on. We need to not shrink back at this time but to expand our vision, increase our faith and strengthen our base. We got a foretaste of this church’s immediate future expansion in Imee’s presentation earlier in the service. This is how it happens. Get on board! If you think this church is shrinking you are very mistaken. This church is poised for growth. Be a part of it.
先週のマイク牧師の「自分の視野を広げる」メッセージは適切だと思います。今は、ゆっくりする時間ではない、視野を広げる時間です.信仰をまして、基盤を強める時間です。Imeeさんのプレゼンからもこの教会の今後についてもちょっと見えてきたかもしれません。やることは簡単です。全員が教会の活動に参加する時期です。この教会がだんだんなくなっていくと思っているなら大間違いです。 この教会は成長する態勢にあります。 その一員になってください。
There is a challenge and an encouragement here for the members of this church to be faithful in service, as the believers at Antioch were; to be fearless in obedience as the believers at Antioch were; and to be filled with the Spirit, as the believers at Antioch were.
この教会のメンバーに挑戦でもあり、激励でもあり。アンテオケの信者と同じく 奉仕に忠実である 恐れずに従う 聖霊に満たされる
With such submission to the Holy Spirit, listen to how the church at Antioch fared in the years that followed, according to one Bible commentary: “The church prospered greatly in Antioch, and it became a Christian hub and headquarters for the apostles. For many centuries in church history, Antioch remained a strong witness for evangelisation, sending missionaries into Persia and throughout the Roman empire.” (TPT)
精霊に身を服従したアンテオケの教会は後にどうなったかをある聖書の解釈にこう書かれた「アンテオケの教会が大いに繁栄し、キリスト教の商業の中枢となり、使徒の本部になりました。教会史上、何世紀に渡って、ペルシアやローマ帝国の様々なところまでに伝道者を送って、福音主義の強い証人であった」
So the take away from this passage is for us to be obedient to the Spirit regardless of the call, regardless of the challenges ahead, and regardless of any feelings of discomfort we might have at the time.
この章から学べるものとは、聖霊に従う ことです。それは、どんな行動に導かれても、どんな挑戦があっても、どんないやな気持ちになっても。

The third passage referring to Antioch is also from Acts 13:
三つ目は使徒行伝13章からです。
Paul and Barnabas would from time to time return to Antioch to share with the church there all that God was doing through their ministry work and to encourage and strengthen the church.
パオルとバルナバは定期的にアンテオケに戻って、彼ら,それぞれの職務で神様がどんなことをしたかを教会に伝え、教会のメンバーを励まして、教会を強くしていた。
Though they had gone out from the church, they were still connected to the church. They returned from time to time to minister in the Word, but not as leaders. They clearly came under the authority of the leaders at the Antioch church.
二人は教会から出て行きましたが、教会とつながっていました。時々教会に戻ってきて、福音を伝えた。もちろん、リーダーとしてではない。アンテオケの教会のリーダーたちの紹介できていたと思います。
There is another parallel here with MIC with regards to Pastor Mike and myself. We’ll be back – you can’t get rid of us that easily! – not as leaders but from time to time as fellow servants and ministers of the Word, under the authority of Pastor Joseph and the other leaders here, to share with you what God is doing in and through us as we serve elsewhere.
ここも、箕面国際教会との似た状況です。マイク牧師と私はいつかまた戻ってきます。しかし、それはこの教会のリーダーとしてではなく、みなさんと同じく、一信者として、福音の職務を持った人として。そして、それはもちろん、ヨセフ牧師とこの教会のリーダーたちの紹介の元で。
To be clear, this is not a call to cling to the past so that one day things might be once again like they used to be, even if just for a short while. No! It is a call in the midst of persevering and expanding and enjoying the newness of God’s mercies, to look ahead with joy, as we will, to the day when we will visit back here and share with you what God has been doing.
はっきり言います、これは過去のものに掴んで、過去にいつか戻りたいと言う呼びかけではありません。一瞬のためでもダメです。これは、私たちの箕面国際教会の今後を楽しみにするお願いです。神様の働きに自信を持って、この変化の時期を喜んで受け入れるべきです。そして、マイク牧師と私の今後に神様がどんな素晴らしい職務を与えるかをいつか聞けることを楽しみにする依頼です。
The takeaway from this passage is that in all things, we are to rejoice in the Spirit.
この章から学べるものは聖霊にあって喜ぶ
I pray that God will fully open your eyes to see the spiritual realities that lie ahead, just as God opened the eyes of Elisha’s servant to see such things.
神様はエリシャの使用人の目を開けたように、みなさまの目も今後の精的な現実に開けることを祈ります。
My hope, my prayer and my expectation is that with eyes that have been opened, the congregation here at MIC will be continually filled with the Spirit, obedient to the call of the Spirit, always rejoicing in the Spirit, so that MIC, like Antioch in the MIddle East, will be a cradle of Christianity here in Japan for many years to come.
私の願いは、箕面国際教会がこれからも聖霊に満たされて、聖霊に従い、聖霊にあっていつも喜ぶことです。そして、中東でのアンテオケの教会と同様に箕面国際教会も何年に渡っても日本でキリスト教の発祥の地になることを期待しています。
