Introduction

Throughout Scripture we find analogies that point to God’s ability to reveal Himself in ways we can understand, using illustrations we can handle.
聖書を通じて神様が私たちに理解しやすい形でご自身を明かした例えがたくさんある事がわかります。

For example, to Moses, God showed Himself in the burning bush (Exodus 3:1~10); to Elijah, He was manifested through wind, earthquake, fire and a delicate whispering voice (1 Kings 19:11~12); and, to Isaiah, a vision of God in the holy temple (Isaiah 6:1~4).
例えばモーゼには、燃える炎の中に神様ご自身の姿を現しました(出エジプト記 3:1-10) エリヤには、風、地震、火、そしてささやくような細い声で神様が現れました（列王記Ⅰ 19:11-12）イザヤには、神殿において神様が現れました（イザヤ書6:1-4)

These scriptural images of God are easy to visualize and remember, yet on further reflection they convey important and profound truths concerning God.
これらの聖書における神様のイメージは、想像しやすく思い浮かべやすいです。しかし、さらに深く考えると、それらは神様に関する重要で意味深い真実を伝えているのです。

If we didn’t have access to the Bible, we can still know about God from the world around us.
もし私たちに聖書がなくても、周りの世界から神様のことを知ることができます。

Think of a place in God’s creation where you find yourself especially aware of God’s presence. It could be a particular location, a familiar sight, a work of art or the presence of another person. Why do you feel especially aware of God there?
あなたの周りで、特に神様の存在を感じる場所を思い浮かべてください。それはある特定の場所であるかもしれませんし、馴染みの光景、美術作品、もしくはある人の存在の中に感じるかもしれません。なぜあなたは特にその場所で神様の存在を感じるのでしょうか？

For me, when I get close to nature. I remember going to Canada and I had the opportunity to see and experience Niagara Falls several times. The cascading torrent of six million cubic feet of water goes over the crest of the falls every minute. The sheer power it generates is both overwhelming and amazing. I can’t help but think of God who made it and the other wonders of nature that He created.
私にとっては、自然の中にいる時に神様を感じます。カナダに行ったとき、ナイアガラの滝を何度も訪ねましたが、毎分６００万立法フィートもの大量の水が滝の頂上から落ち、その光景が生み出す力には、圧倒されると同時に素晴らしく感動を覚えます。私はその滝や他の自然を造り出した神様の事を考えずにはいられません。

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.

Isaiah 40:21~22

あなたがたは、何も知らないのですか。世界が造られる前からあった神のおことばが全く聞こえないというのですか。一度もおことばを聞き、理解したことがないのですか。神はこの地のはるか上にいます。下界の人間など、いなごのように見えるでしょう。神は、天を天幕のように広げて、ご自分の住まいとします。

イザヤ書 40:21-22

“To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.

Isaiah 40:25~26

「おまえたちは、わたしをだれと比べるというのか。わたしと肩を並べられる者がいるか」と、聖なる方は問いかけます。天を仰いでみなさい。だれが星を造ったのですか。羊飼いは群れを導き、羊たちを愛称で呼び、一匹でもいなくなってはいないかと数えます。同じように神も、星々を数えます。

イザヤ書 40:25-26

The doctrine of creation allows us to feel at home in the world. It reminds us that we, like the rest of creation, were fashioned by God.
天地創造の教義は私たちを落ち着かせてくれます。私たちも他の生き物と同じように神様によって造られたことを思い出させてくれます。

We are here because God wants us to be here. We are not alone but are in the very presence of the God who made and owns everything. He knows us and cares for us. Behind the apparently faceless universe lies a Person.
私たちは、神様が望んでいるからここにいるのです。私たちは独立しているのではなく、全てを作り出し、手にしておられる神様の元に生きています。神様は私たちを知り、気にかけてくださいます。この世の創造主は神様です。

Still, there is a limit to what can be known about God from nature (so-called general revelation).
しかし、自然から神様を知ることには限界があります。それはいわゆる一般啓示です。

Christianity points to the biblical record culminating in Jesus Christ, especially His death and resurrection, as the supreme demonstration of the existence and character of God (so-called special revelation).
キリスト教はイエス様に辿り着くまでの聖書の記録です。特にイエス様の死と復活が神様の性格と存在を示しています。いわゆる特別啓示です。

The biblical witness to God both confirms and extends any knowledge of God available from nature. The ultimate demonstration of God’s continuing concern for and involvement in His creation is His act of redemption in Jesus Christ. Creation is the theater in which the great drama of redemption is played out.
つまり、特別啓示は一般啓示の確認です。神様が創造してくれた世界に対して関与し続けている証しはイエス様の贖罪行為にあります。贖罪のドラマは天地創造の劇に上映されているものです。

1. The Apostles’ Creed expresses belief in “God as Almighty.”
   使徒信条は全能の神様における信念を表しています

The word almighty is problematic to some. It is helpful for us to consider several points.
「全能」という言葉はある人には問題のある言葉です。様々な観点から解決しましょう。

1. Because God is Almighty, all power and authority in this world derive from God
   神様は全能の神様だからです、この世の全ての力と権力は神様に由来するのです

Rulers, governments and Christian leaders all derive authority from God and are responsible to Him for the way they exercise it.
支配者、政府、クリスチャンのリーダー全員が神様から権力を得ているので、神様にその責任を果たさないといけません。

Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

Romans 13:1~2

上に立つ権威に従いなさい。神がお立てになった権威だからです。神によらない権威はどこにもありません。ですから、国の法律に従わない者は、神に従うことを拒んでいるのです。その人は必ず罰せられます。

ローマ人への手紙 13:1-2

So, what do you think of the Arab Spring or the current demonstrations and rioting in Hong Kong?
「アラブの春」と「香港デモ」に関してはどう思いますか。

We subject ourselves to governing authorities because they are appointed by God and serve a purpose in His plan. God sets a nation’s leaders, but not always to bless the people. Sometimes it is to judge the people or to ripen the nation for judgment.
権力を持っている人や組織は神様からその権力を得ているので、私たちは彼らに従うのです。神様は国のリーダーを決めますが、その目的は必ずしもその国民を祝福するためではありません。時にはそれは国民を裁くためであるか、その国を裁くためである。

Please take note that Paul wrote this during the domination of the Roman Empire. It was not a democracy, and was specially cruel to Christians – yet he still recognized their legitimate authority. He neither denied nor reviled the “authority”!
パウロはローマ帝国の支配に関して同じように書きました。ローマ帝国は民衆主義ではなくて、クリスチャンを迫害していたのです。それでも、彼はローマ帝国の権力を認めたのです。彼はその「権力」を非難もしなかったし、その力に反対もしなかった。

Since governments have authority from God, we are bound to obey them – unless, of course, they order us to do something in contradiction to God’s law. Then, we are commanded to obey God before man (as in Acts 4:19).
政府は神様からその権力を得ているので、私たちはその権力に従うしかないです。もちろん、政府が神様に反することを命令した場合だけは反対すべきです。その時に、政府「人間」よりは神様を従うべきです。

2. Because God is Almighty, things that seem impossible to us are perfectly possible for God.
   神様は全能の神様だからです、私たちには不可能に思えることも神様にとっては完全に可能なのです

The angel who came to Mary reminded her of this truth.
マリア様を訪れた天使はこの真実を伝えた。

“For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Luke 1:37

神の約束は、必ずそのとおりになるのです

ルカの福音書 1:37

It is very easy for us to underestimate God; the creed reminds us that He is able to do far more than we think, ask or imagine.
神様を見くびることは簡単です。この使徒信条は神様が私たちが考える、頼む、想像することよりはるかに超えたことができると思い出してくれます。

Blaise Pascal (19 June 1623 – 19 August 1662) a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and theologian said:
“The greatest single distinguishing feature of the omnipotence of God is that our imagination gets lost when thinking about it.” 
フランス人の数学者、物理学者、発明家、作者と神学者であったブレーズ・パスカル氏はこのように述べた
神様の全能の最も顕著な特徴は、私たちの想像力では到底太刀打ちできないと言う事です。

3. “Almighty” does not mean capricious or whimsical.
   全能というのは移り気や気まぐれという意味ではありません

Scripture stresses the reliability of God; having made a promise, God stands by His word.
聖書は神様の信用性を強調しています。一度約束したことを神様が必ず果たしてくれます。

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;

Psalm 19:7~8

主のおきては完全で、私たちを守り、賢くし、喜びと光を与えます。

詩篇 19:7-8

The fact that He is almighty doesn’t mean that He can or will suddenly change His mind about this. In His power and wisdom, God has chosen to achieve our salvation and has committed Himself to us in this way.
神様は「全能」の神様であることはその計画や考えを急に変えることを意味としないです。その力と知恵で、神様が私たちの救いと達成させることを選んだので、それを最後まで見守って果たします。

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or, has He spoken, and will He not make it good?”

Numbers 23:19

よろしいですか、ツィポル殿のご子息である王よ。お聞きもらさないように、よくお聞きください。神は人間と違って、うそなどおつきになりません。神が約束を実行なさらなかったことがあるでしょうか。

2. The Apostles’ Creed expresses belief in “God the Father”
   使徒信条は父なる神様における信念を表します。

What comes to mind when you think of God as Father?
父なる神様を考える時に何を浮かびますか。

The statement “God is our Father” means that God is like a human father. In some ways He is like a human father, and in others He is not. Like all analogies, the analogy of God as Father breaks down at points. However, it is still an extremely useful and vivid way of thinking of God.
「神様は私たちの父です」という声明は神様が人間の父親のような存在ですと意味します。ある意味では人間の父親のような存在ですが、ある意味ではそうでもないです。全ての例えと同様にこの例えは場合によって崩れます。しかし、とても役に立つはっきりとした説明です。

Any idea of God as an impersonal being or force is immediately discounted when we speak of God as Father. To talk about God as our Father is to speak of His authority and care, but it is also to speak of His creativity.
「父なる神様」として神様のことを語ると「人間味のない存在や力」の考えはすぐに無視されます。つまり「父なる神様」として話すことは神様の権力と気遣いだけでなく、神様の創造性も含む話になります。

We are here because God brought us into being. Everything we see in the world was created by God and belongs to God. The universe reflects the wisdom, power and majesty of our Father God who brought it into being.
神様が私たちを創造してくれたから私たちはここに存在します。この世の中にあるものが全て神様の創造物で、神様に所属しています。全世界がその創造主である神様の知恵、力と尊厳を反映しています。

In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:9~10

ですから、こう祈りなさい。『天におられるお父様。あなたのきよい御名があがめられますように。あなたの御国が来ますように。天の御国でと同じように、この地上でも、あなたの御心が行われますように。

1. Thinking of God as Father is especially helpful in prayer
   神様を父なる神様と考えることは特に祈りの時に役立ちます

When the creed speaks of God, it is not dealing with some philosophical ideas of God but with the God who revealed Himself in Scripture and supremely in Jesus Christ.
使徒信条は神様のことをいうと、それは哲学上での神様のアイディアではなく聖書に書かれている通りイエス様の姿で自分自身を明かした神様のことをさしています。

It does not refer to some abstract idea about God but to the living and personal God whom Christians worship and adore. This enhances our approach to God in prayer.
神様に関する抽象的なアイディアではなくクリスチャンが賛美している生きていて人格を持った神様のことを言及しています。このことは祈りにての神様への接近を強めます。

One day, while my son Zac and I were out in the country, climbing around in some cliffs, I heard a voice from above me yell, “Hey Dad! Catch me!” I turned around to see Zac joyfully jumping off a rock straight at me. He had jumped and then yelled “Hey Dad!” I became an instant circus act, catching him. We both fell to the ground. For a moment after I caught him I could hardly talk. When I found my voice again I gasped in exasperation: “Zac! Can you give me one good reason why you did that???” He responded with remarkable calmness: “Sure…because you’re my Dad.”

The child’s whole assurance was based on the fact that his father was trustworthy. Zac could live life to the hilt because he knew his father. Isn’t this even more true for a Christian and in our prayer-life?
子供の全ての確信は信用できる父親がいたという事実に基づいていた。ザックくんは自分のお父さんをよく理解していたから精一杯生きていた。クリスチャンにもまさにそのことを言えるのではないでしょうか。特に祈りに関しては。

2. What about unanswered prayers to our heavenly Father?
   では、神様が応えて下さらない祈りについてはどうでしょうか？     

Most human fathers, despite their weaknesses and shortcomings, wish the best for their children. How much more does God wants to give the best for us!
ほとんどの父親はその弱点や欠点にも関わらず、子供に最善なことをしてあげたい。従って神様も私たちに最善なことしか望んでいないのです。

“Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Matthew 7:10-11

『魚が食べたい』と言う子どもに、蛇を与える父親がいるでしょうか。いるわけがありません。 罪深いあなたがたであっても、自分の子どもには良いものを与えたいと思うのです。それならなおのこと、あなたがたの天の父が、求める者に良いものを下さらないはずがあるでしょうか。

マタイの福音書 7:10-11

But every now and then a child may ask his or her father for something that is totally inappropriate. The father’s failure to give this to the child does not mean that he did not hear the request or that he has ceased to care for the child. Rather, it means that his care and concern for the well-being of the child prevents him from fulfilling that request. He may give something else instead, something more helpful and appropriate.
でも時には、子供が父親に不適切なものを頼むことがあります。その依頼を断ったり無視したりする父親は自分の子供を愛していないではありません。それどころか子供のことが大事に思っているからこそその依頼を断るのです。代わりにより適切で役に立てるものをあげるかもしれません。

Perhaps we could say that God answers the prayers that we ought to have prayed.
恐らく神様は、私たちが祈るべきであった祈りに対して応えて下さると言えるでしょう

3. Lesson on parenting.
   子育てについての教訓

The analogy of God as Father also indicates what human fathers ought to be like.
父なる神様の例えは私たち人間の父親のあるべき姿を示しています 

The same care, compassion and commitment God shows toward us are meant to be reflected in the attitude of human fathers toward their children.
神様が見せてくれる優しさ、愛情と献身が地上の父親が子供に対してみせるべきです。

4. Jesus Christ in the flesh. Remember that the best way to think about God is to think about Jesus Christ.
   イエスキリストの生けるお姿　私たちが神様の事を考えるもっとも良い方法は、イエス様の事を考える事だと言う事を思い出してください

“Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father”

John 14:9

わたしを見た者は、父を見たのです

ヨハネの福音書14:9

Think of the love, care and kindness you see reflected in the face of Jesus. That is what the love of God for you is like.
イエス様の顔に現れている愛情と優しさをか投げてください。あなたに対して神様の愛はそのようなものです。

Conclusion

Because God is Almighty, there is no one greater or stronger than Him. We can depend on Him for protection, rest on His promises and enjoy His blessings.
神様は全能の神様ですので、神様より強くて依頼ものはありません。守られることを頼りにできます、その約束を信じることができます、その祝福も楽しめます。

Because God is our heavenly Father, we can ask Him to meet our needs in every area of our life. Let’s thank Him for creating and sustaining us in His love.
神様は天国におられる神様ですので、人生の全ての面において自分のニーズを満たすことをお願いできます。その愛情に私たちを創造し、持続してくれていることに感謝しましょう。

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.

James 1:17~18

すべての良いもの、完全なものは、光を造られた神から来るのです。神にはわずかの変化もくもりもなく、いつまでも輝いています。 神は御心のままに、真理のことばによって、私たちに新しいいのちを与えてくださいました。こうして私たちは、神の新しい家族の最初の子どもとされたのです。
