Introduction
序論
A. Christian tradition informs us that today is Palm Sunday, the day we commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem.
キリスト教の伝統では今日は「枝の主日」です。つまり、イエス様のエルサレムへの凱旋を記念する日です。
In the Philippines, Roman Catholics bring young coconut leaves or palm fronds to church to be blessed by the priest and fashioned into crosses. The crosses are then placed in auspicious places in the house to ward off evil spirits.
フィリピンでは、カトリックの信者たちは、ココナッツの葉やシュロ葉を教会へ持って行き、神父さんに聖別してもらい、それで十字架を作ります。そして、悪霊を追い払うために家の主だったところに置きます。
B. In our Scripture passage, Jesus made deliberate preparations to announce Himself as Messiah in a formal and unmistakable manner. He had steadily refused to do this since the early part of His ministry because it would bring matters to a focus too soon.
今日の聖書の箇所から、イエス様は自分がメシアであることを正式に間違えのない方法で発表するために様々な準備を意図的に行いました。物事の進み具合と時間を考えて、それまでは、このようなことをわざと避けていたのです。
C. The people understood that He really claimed to be the Messiah by referring to Himself as Son of God and Son of Man, but they looked for a political Messiah, which Jesus refused to be (John 6:15; 18:36).
イエス様が、自分のことを「神の子」、「人の子」と呼んでいたので、当時の人々は彼がメシアと主張していたことをわかっていましたが、彼らは政治的なメシアを求めていましたから、イエス様はその役割を拒否しました。（ヨハネの福音書6:15; 18:36)
D. His enemies had tried hard to make Him say in plain language that He claimed to be Messiah so that they might have a charge of blasphemy against Him. Even now He will not use these words, but He will allow Himself to be hailed as the Son of David.
イエス様の敵は、イエス様に自分がメシアであるとはっきり発言させようと躍起になっていました。その理由は、それによって、神を冒涜した罪でイエス様を訴えたかったからなのです。今でもイエス様はこれらの言葉を使わないでしょう、しかしイエス様は彼自身を「ダビデの子」として歓迎されるのを受け入れるでしょう。
E. The owners of the two animals were probably disciples of the Lord, and the plan was worked out secretly so the Jewish leaders could not interfere. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem, He fulfilled Zechariah 9:9:
２匹の動物の持ち主は恐らく、イエス様の弟子であって、ユダヤ人の宗教指導者にバレないように密かにその計画を立てたと思います。そして、イエス様がエルサレムに入っていた時、ゼカリア書第９章9節が実現されました。
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation,

F. The triumphal entry was a defiance of His enemies and a proclamation of His Messiahship by an act that all would understand. The people were beside themselves with joy as they marched into the city over the slope of Mt. of Olives.
イエス様のエルサレムへの凱旋は、敵への挑戦と自分がメシアであることの宣言でした。その行動は、当時の人々にとって、とてもわかりやすいものでした。人々は大いに喜び、オリーブ山の坂を降りて、エルサレムに向かって進みました。
By doing so, Jesus declared Himself to be the King of the Jews. But He also aroused the ire of the religious leaders so that they were forced to act against Him:
この行動で、イエス様がユダヤ人の王であることを宣言しましたが、宗教指導者の怒りも掻き立てたのです。そして、彼らは、イエスさまに逆らった行動に出るのを余儀なくされました。
Luke 19:39 – And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.”

John 12:19 – The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!”
そこで、パリサイ人たちは互いに言った。「どうしたのだ。何一つうまくいっていない。見なさい。世はあげてあの人の後について行ってしまった。」
[OPTIONAL COMMENTARY: There were three (3) special groups in that Passover crowd: the native Judeans who were suspicious of Jesus, the Galileans who followed Him, and the visitors from outside Judea who did not know who Jesus was (Matt. 21:10-11).
Within the crowd from Judea were people who saw Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead (John 12:17-18). The statement that “the crowd that cried ‘Hosanna!’ on Palm Sunday ended up crying ‘Crucify Him!’ on Good Friday” is not true. It was primarily the Jerusalem Jews, influenced by the priests, who asked for His blood (Matt. 27:20 – But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas and destroy Jesus.)]

TRANSITION: Ironically, in the midst of jubilation, Jesus wept. But, why? Certainly, these were not tears of joy.
変遷：皮肉なことに、喜びの最中にイエス様が涙を流しました。でも、なぜでしょう。もちろん、喜びの涙ではなかった。

“If you had known,” Jesus said. It means that His blessings were there but were either ignored or rejected. In several occasions, Jesus rebuked some people because of their apparent ignorance of the truth.
「もし知っていたら」とイエス様が言いました。つまり、彼の祝福はすぐそこにあったが、人々はそれを無視したか拒否したのです。真実を知らない理由で、イエス様は人々を叱責したのです。

In another passage, the apostle Paul had said this about his fellow Jews:
別の聖書の章で、パウロはユダヤ人についてこのように述べた。
Romans 10:1~4 – Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

Jesus came to bring peace (Luke 2:14), but the people rejected Him and declared war (Luke 12:49-51). There is no peace on earth, but there is peace in heaven because of Christ’s work on the cross (19:38); and there is peace with God for those who trust the Savior (7:50; 8:48; Rom. 5:1).
イエス様は平和をもたらすために来たのです（ルカの福音書第2章14節）しかし、人々は彼を拒否し、戦いを宣言しました（ルカの福音書第12章49-51節）地球上には平和はありません！しかし、イエス様が十字架で成し遂げたことによって、天国に平和があります。そして、イエス様を信じる人には神様との平和があります。（ルカの福音書7章:50節; 8章:48節 ローマ人への手紙5章:1節)
As He thought of the terrible judgments that would come to His people, Jesus wept over the city.
自分の人々ににまもなく下されるであろう、ひどい判決を考えたとき、イエス様が涙を流した。

A. In short, they wasted their opportunity! They blew it.
簡単に言えば、彼らはその機会を逃したのです。台無しにしてしまったのです！
And, He wept over it. Showing his compassion for the guilty city, and his strong sense of the evils that were about to come upon it. His lamentation here is similar to the one He earlier expressed in Matthew.
そのことにイエス様は涙を流しました。有罪になる町に慈悲を示し、これからの大変な時期を考えたイエス様はエルサレムを嘆き悲しみました。マタイの福音書にも同じような嘆きがあります。
Matthew 23:37~39 – 37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate; 39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

B. As he entered the city he passed over the Mount of Olives. From that mountain there was a full and magnificent view of the city. The view of the splendid capital—the knowledge of its crimes—the remembrance of the mercies of God toward it—the certainty that it might have been spared if it had received the prophets and Himself—the knowledge that it was about to put Him, their long-expected Messiah, to death, and for that to be given up to utter desolation—affected His heart, and the triumphant King and Lord of Zion wept!
イエス様はオリーブ山を通って、エルサレムへ入りました。その山からエルサレム全体の素晴らしい景色が一望できました。その町の罪を知り、神様からの愛を思い出しました、つまり、預言者や自分自身の言葉をもし聞いていたなら、許されたのに、または、これからメシアである自分を殺してしまい、本当に大惨事に陥ってしまうエルサレムとその人々のことを考えて、イエス様が感情に溢れて涙を流した。凱旋した王が泣いたのです！
C. Amid all His display of authority, and all the acclamations of the multitude, the heart of the Redeemer of the world was turned from the tokens of rejoicing to the miseries about to come on a guilty people. Yet they had their chance to be saved.
イエス様が権力を示した中、人々の喝采の中、世の救い主の心がその喜びから一変し、罪びとたちのために悲嘆にくれたのです。しかし、彼らに救われるチャンスはあったのに！
Barnes: If you had known, says He, even you, with all your guilt, the things that make for your peace; if you had repented, had been righteous, and had received the Messiah; if you had not stained your hands with the blood of the prophets, and should not with that of the Son of God, then these terrible calamities would not come upon you. But it is too late. The national wickedness is too great; the cup is full; mercy is exhausted; and Jerusalem, with all her pride and splendor, the glow of her temple, and the pomp of her service, must perish! For the days shall come,

D. “Will build an embankment around you” (v.43).

The word embankment now means commonly a pit or ditch. When the Bible was translated, it meant also earth thrown up to defend a camp (Johnson’s Dictionary). This is the meaning of the original here. It is not a pit or large ditch, but a pile of earth, stones, or wood thrown up to guard a camp, and to defend it from the approach of an enemy.
「土塁」という単語は現在「大きな穴」という意味を持ちます。しかし、聖書が翻訳されたときに、「陣営を守るために掘り出された土」のことを意味した。この節には、その当時の意味が適応されています。つまり、敵から自分を守れるために土や石や木材の積み重ねたのです。
This was done at the siege of Jerusalem. Josephus informs us that General Titus, in order that he might compel the city to surrender by famine, built a wall around the whole circumference of the city. This wall was nearly 5 miles in length, and was furnished with thirteen (13) castles or towers. This work was completed with incredible labor in ten (10) days. The professed design of this wall was to keep the city in on every side. Never was a prophecy more strikingly accomplished.
これはエルサレムの包囲攻撃のときにされました。Josephusによると、チタス大将は兵糧攻めによるエルサレムの降伏を計画していたので、町の周囲に５マイルにもなる壁を築いきました。そして、１３箇所に塔や城を建てた。このものすごい作業が１０日間で完成しました。このデザインの目的は町全体を囲むことでした。

E. “And level you … the ground” (v.44).

All this was done, says Christ, because Jerusalem knew not the time of its visitation — that is, did not know, and would not know, that the Messiah had come. His coming was the time of their merciful visitation. That time had been predicted, and invaluable blessings promised as the result of His advent; but they would not know it. They rejected Him, they put Him to death, and it was just that they should be destroyed.
キリストによると、これらのことは全てエルサレムがイエス様の登場を知らなかったから起こったのです。つまり、メシアである自分がそこにいたことを彼らが知らなかったのです。聖書にはその登場が予測されていました。そして、その登場とともに様々な祝福も約束されていた。しかし、彼らはそのことに気づかなかった。彼らはイエス様を拒否し、十字架で殺してしまうので、その罰を受けるしかなかった。

30 今まで、神様はこうした無知を見過ごしてこられました。しかし今は、すべての人に、偶像を捨てて神に立ち返るようにと命じておられるのです。 31 神の任命なさった方が正しいさばきを行う日が、決まっているからです。神様はその方を復活させ、そのことの動かぬ証拠とされたのです。」

God is inviting everyone to repent of their sins because there is a coming judgment. God, in His love, sent Jesus Christ to die on our behalf. He received the punishment that we are supposed to suffer. He is our compassionate Savior.
間も無く判決のときがやってきます。だから、神様が全員に罪を告白し、罪を悔やむようにと言っておられます。神様が私たちを愛しています。だから、神の御子であるイエスキリストを私たちのために十字架で死なすために地上に送ったのです。私たちの罪の罰は彼が受けてくれました。イエス様は私たちの憐れみ深い救い主です。

Hebrews 3:7~9 へブル人への手紙 7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: 3:7-9
7 “Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.
7-8 ですから、聖霊はこう警告します。キリストの声に注意深く耳を傾けなさい。今日その声を聞いたら、昔のイスラエル人のように心を閉ざしてはいけません。彼らは荒野で試練を与えられた時、神の愛にそむき、心を鋼鉄のように固くして、文句を言い続けたのです。 9 彼らは何度も反抗しましたが、四十年の間、神は忍耐され、彼らの目の前で驚くべき奇跡を行い続けてくださいました。
Do not lose the golden opportunity that God gives us. We are living in the end times. The time of His return is drawing near. We must be ready. We must not squander the opportunity to do good — to proclaim His salvation and to live for His glory!
神様が与えてくれたこの素晴らしい機会を逃してはいけません。私たちは試練の時に生きています。イエス様が戻ってくる日は近いのです。私たちは準備しないといけません。「良いこと」をする時間を逃してはいけません。それは「イエス様の救い」を宣言することと「神の栄光」のために生きることです。
