This morning I have some Christmas questions for you. And whoever gets the questions right, I’m going to give a kiss! Is that okay? No-one wants a Hershey’s chocolate kiss?…
- Whose birthday do we celebrate at Christmas?
- Who was Mary’s first born child?
- Whose birth did the angels sing about to the shepherds?
- Who did the shepherds run to see?
- Who did the wise men travel for years to see?
- Who left heaven to be born in a manger?
- Who am I?
The answer to all these questions (except the last one) is Jesus. Christmas is all about Jesus. It’s not about presents or turkey or Christmas trees or Santa Claus. It’s not even about angels or shepherds or wise men, or even Joseph or Mary, even though they played a very wonderful part in to nativity story. Christmas is about Jesus, and it’s only about Jesus.
You know one of the last things John wrote in His gospel? He said,
We can say exactly the same thing about Christmas. “We celebrate Christmas in order that we may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through our faith in him we may have life.”
This Christmas, enjoy your time with your family. Be thankful for any presents you get, for the food you eat and for all the good things that God has given you. But most of all, remember Jesus, and His birth. Remember Jesus and why He came – so that by believing in Him you might have the most wonderful life, and the gift of eternal life.
Pray.
