1 Peter 2:1-12
Introduction
Being Christian in America, when it came time for us to name our two kids, we did the very American-Christian thing to do by choosing names out of the Bible. Hannah was named after Samuel’s faith-filled, praying mother. Mark was named after the disciple who, even in his imperfection, was faithful to God to the end.
私達は二人の子供に名前を付ける時、アメリカンクリスチャンがするように聖書から選びました。ハンナはサムエルの信仰が満たされ、祈る母にちなんで名付けしました。マークは完全に最後まで神に忠実であった弟子にちなんで名付けました。
It was important for us to choose a name with meaning, because we believe that names have significance. Like we see many times in the Bible, there’s an identity that comes with a name, an identity that is lived out by each person. We wanted Hannah and Mark to grow up to become their namesake, faith-filled and faithful to God.
意味を伴い名前を選ぶのは私達にとって重要でした。何故なら私達は名前には意義深く意味があると信じてるからです。私達は聖書の中に何度も見るように、名前と共に性質があり、性質はそれぞれの人によって現されます。
私達はハンナとマークに彼らの同じ名前の人の様に成長して信仰に満たされ、神に忠実になって欲しかったのです。
When we know our identity, meaning when we know who we are and why we’re important, our life tends to move in that direction. When we know our identity, that identity is lived out in our life,
自分のアイデンティティが分かっていれば、つまり自分が誰であって、なぜ大切な存在なのかが分かっていれば、その方向に向かっていきます。自分のアイデンティティが分かっていれば、そのアイデンティティが人生に全うされます。
and that’s the topic of my message for us today. Living out our identity, the identity that comes from our faith in Jesus Christ.
そしてそれが今日の私のメッセージです。性質を全うする、その性質がイエスキリストの信仰から来るのです。
Text Reading
ペテロの手神2章１〜１２
(1 Peter 2:1-12) 1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for. 9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.
1だから、あらゆる悪意、あらゆる偽り、偽善、そねみ、いっさいの悪口を捨てて、2今生れたばかりの乳飲み子のように、混じりけのない霊の乳を慕い求めなさい。それによっておい育ち、救に入るようになるためである。3あなたがたは、主が恵み深いかたであることを、すでに味わい知ったはずである。4主は、人には捨てられたが、神にとっては選ばれた尊い生ける石である。5この主のみもとにきて、あなたがたも、それぞれ生ける石となって、霊の家に築き上げられ、聖なる祭司となって、イエス・キリストにより、神によろこばれる霊のいけにえを、ささげなさい。6聖書にこう書いてある、／「見よ、わたしはシオンに、／選ばれた尊い石、隅のかしら石を置く。それにより頼む者は、／決して、失望に終ることがない」。 7この石は、より頼んでいるあなたがたには尊いものであるが、不信仰な人々には「家造りらの捨てた石で、隅のかしら石となったもの」、8また「つまずきの石、妨げの岩」である。しかし、彼らがつまずくのは、御言に従わないからであって、彼らは、実は、そうなるように定められていたのである。9しかし、あなたがたは、選ばれた種族、祭司の国、聖なる国民、神につける民である。それによって、暗やみから驚くべきみ光に招き入れて下さったかたのみわざを、あなたがたが語り伝えるためである。10あなたがたは、以前は神の民でなかったが、いまは神の民であり、以前は、あわれみを受けたことのない者であったが、いまは、あわれみを受けた者となっている。11愛する者たちよ。あなたがたに勧める。あなたがたは、この世の旅人であり寄留者であるから、たましいに戦いをいどむ肉の欲を避けなさい。 12異邦人の中にあって、りっぱな行いをしなさい。そうすれば、彼らは、あなたがたを悪人呼ばわりしていても、あなたがたのりっぱなわざを見て、かえって、おとずれの日に神をあがめるようになろう。
Context
背景
These words come to us from the opening chapters of the book of 1 Peter. And it helps to know that in the previous chapter, it speaks of the “living hope” that we have as believers.
これらの言葉はペテロ第１の手紙の初めの章から私達に来ています。前の章において、それは私達が信者として持つ’’生ける望み”のことを語っています。
This book was written by Peter, referred to as the Apostle of Hope, just as Paul is referred to as the Apostle of Faith and John the Apostle of Love.
この本は希望の使徒と呼ばれるペテロによって書かれた本でした。丁度パウロが信仰の使徒そしてヨハネが愛の使徒と呼ばれた様に。
This underlying theme of hope is very important, because Peter writes that our hope is founded in Jesus Christ. And this “living hope” that we believers have is that our redeemed life would reflect the glory of God, wherein we find our true identity.
希望のこの根底にあるテーマは非常に重要です。何故ならペトロは私達の希望は
イエスキリストから発見すると書かれています。そしてこれが、”生きる望み”とは

And in our passage in Chapter 2, Peter lists some descriptions of a Christian’s true identity.
そして２章へと、ペトロがクリスチャンの真の性質をいくつか説明しています。
Living Stones
生ける石
First, Peter identifies us as living stones (1 Peter 2:4,5).まず、ペテロの手紙第１ 2章4,5節ペテロは私たちを生ける石と見なしています。
4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
4主は、人には捨てられたが、神にとっては選ばれた尊い生ける石である。5この主のみもとにきて、あなたがたも、それぞれ生ける石となって、霊の家に築き上げられ、聖なる祭司となって、イエス・キリストにより、神によろこばれる霊のいけにえを、ささげなさい。
It’s interesting to note here that we are being compared to Jesus Christ, described as THE Living Stone himself. And this comparison is given not to say that we are similar in nature or stature, but to say that our lives should be exemplary, just as Jesus’ life was exemplary, of the salvation message, as described in verses six through eight.
私たちが生ける石そのものであるイエス・キリストと比べられているのです。そしてこのように比べられているのは、私たちの性質や姿が似ているからではなく、イエスの生き方が模範であったように、私たちの生き方も救いのメッセージの模範であるべきだからです。6節から8節までのにおいて説明されるように。

The Wiersbe Bible Commentary says that “the Church is and should be living proof of the dynamic reality of God to the world.” We, as living stones, as building blocks of the Church, each and every one of us who bears the name of Jesus Christ, should be living proof of the dynamic reality of God to the world!

聖書の解説は”教会は、神様の存在をダイナミックに世界に証明するべき”と言っています。私達は生ける石のように、教会を建てる岩のように私達一人一人がイエスキリストの名を担い、神の存在をダイナミックに世界に証明するよう日常生活を送りましょう。
And specifically, it says that we are to offer “spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” As Christians, we have been given instructions to offer up our bodies, the praise of our lips, and good works toward God and others as spiritual sacrifices. And by such actions, our lives should naturally reflect God’s glory.
具体的に、私達は”イエスキリストを通して神に受け入れられる霊的な犠牲を捧げることであると言っています。
クリスチャンとして、私達は私達の体、私達の唇の賛美、神に向かって良い奉仕など精神的な犠牲を捧げる指示を与えられます。
そして、そのような行動によって、私達の人生は自然に神の栄光が反映されるのです。
In claiming our identity as living stones, our distinction is not so much that we are stones, but that we are living. Stones are inanimate objects, but we are living stones!
生ける石として私達の性質を主張するには、私達が石であることにそんなに意味はありません。石は生命のない物ですが、私達は主イエスを信じるクリスチャンであり生ける石なのです。
Is our life living proof of the dynamic reality of God to the world? Is our life vibrantly and brilliantly reflecting God’s glory? If not, let’s correct it. Let’s be honest enough and courageous enough to admit our shortcomings and correct them.
私たちの人生はこの世に神が実在することの生きた証拠となっているでしょうか？私たちの人生は神の栄光を活気にあふれ、輝かしく反映しているでしょうか？もしそうでなければ、直しましょう。私たちの欠点を正直に、勇気をもって認め、直していきましょう.
And you know what gives me great encouragement? The Scripture says that we are “being built into a spiritual house.” That’s a passive sentence structure, which means that we are not doing the building. We are being built. God is the one who builds our life for the purpose of reflecting his reality and glory. How awesome is that? I think that’s pretty awesome.
私に素晴らしい励ましを与えるものがあります。聖書は、”私達は霊的な家に建てられている”と語っています。
それは受動態の文章で、つまり私達が建物を建てているのではないという意味です。
私達が建てられているのです。神の実在と栄光の反映の為に神が私達の人生を建てられたのです。
なんてすばらしいのでしょう？ 私は、それはかなり素晴らしいことだと思います。
A Chosen People, A Royal Priesthood
選ばれた種族、王である祭司
Second, Peter identifies us as a chosen people, a royal priesthood (1 Peter 2:9,10).
ペテロは私たちを選ばれた種族、王である祭司と見なしています。

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy
9しかし、あなたがたは、選ばれた種族、祭司の国、聖なる国民、神につける民である。それによって、暗やみから驚くべきみ光に招き入れて下さったかたのみわざを、あなたがたが語り伝えるためである。10あなたがたは、以前は神の民でなかったが、いまは神の民であり、以前は、あわれみを受けたことのない者であったが、いまは、あわれみを受けた者となっている。
What was once a distinction given only to the Levitical priests and, to a larger extent, the nation of Israel, is now given to us. What was once the role of a select few has now been entrusted to us. God has chosen us to represent him. God has chosen us to do his work. What a high calling and privilege!
かつてはレビ人の祭司、さらにはイスラエルの国だけにしか与えられていなかった区別が今では私たちにも与えられています。選ばれた数人だけの役割が今では私たちにも委ねられています。神は私たちが神を表すようにと選ばれたのです。神は私たちが神のはたらきをするように選ばれたのです。なんという価値のある使命であり、特権でしょう！
But why? Again, so that we may declare the praises of God—to give him glory. And again, it is not because of what we can do, but because of what God has done. We are now the people of God, simply because we have received the mercy of God.
でも、なぜ？それは、私達は神の御業栄光を述べ伝えるためです。
そしてそれは私達が何が出来るかではなく、神が何をして下さるたのかなのです。
私達は今や神の人々であり、単に私達は神の栄光を受けているのです。
In claiming our identity as a chosen people, we should understand full well that God did not choose us because of our qualifications or our abilities. One of my favorite sayings is that “God does not call the qualified; he qualifies those he calls.”
選ばれた人々として、私達の性質の主張は、神は、私達の知識や能力で私達を選択されたのではなかったという事を私達はよく理解しておく必要が有ります。私のお気に入りの言葉の１つに”神は知識がある者をお召しになるのではなく；神のお召しになる者に資格を与えるのです；があります。
We are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God. Many times, we don’t know what we’re doing. Many times, we make mistakes. But God has not taken this identity from us. He continues to choose us, and to believe in us, and to keep us in ministry work.
私達は選ばれた人々であり、王である祭司、聖なる国民、神に属する人々です。
何度も私達は何をしているのか分からなくなります。何度も、私達は間違いを起こします。しかし、神は私達からこの性質を取り上げていません。
神は私達を選び続け、そして私達を信じて奉仕させて下さいます。
So, as God is so faithful to us, let us be faithful to him in living up to this identity as a chosen people, a royal priesthood. Let us represent him well, because we wear a distinction of very high honor. And through our representation, may we declare his praises and bring glory to him.
神がこれほどまでに私たちに誠実なのですから、選ばれた種族、王である祭司としてのアイデンティティにふさわしく生きて、神に誠実であるようにしましょう。とても大きな名誉を身につけているのですから、神をよく表しましょう。それによって私たちが神を賛美し、神に栄光をもたらすことができるように。
Aliens And Strangers In The World
世の中の旅人と寄留者
Lastly, Peter identifies us as aliens and strangers in the world
ペテロは私たちはこの世で旅人であり、寄留者であると見なしています。
(1 Peter 2:11).ペテロの手紙第一2章11節
11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.
11愛する者たちよ。あなたがたに勧める。あなたがたは、この世の旅人であり寄留者であるから、たましいに戦いをいどむ肉の欲を避けなさい。
I think some of us can identify with this distinction, being foreigners in Japan. In the same way, Christians are called to be aliens and strangers in this world, and rightfully so, because this world is currently governed by the enemy, though not for long. The kingdom of God is coming and has now come. It is pushing back the kingdom of darkness, like light encroaching upon dark, and the gates of hell will not prevail. It cannot withstand the forceful advancement of God’s kingdom.
私達の何人か日本に暮らす外国人はこの区別のように見分ける事が出来ると思います。同じ様に、
クリスチャンはこの世では旅人であり、寄留者だと呼ばれていますが、この世は現在、敵によって支配されているので、当然のことです。でもそんなに長くはありません
神の国は近づいていますし今来ています。それは暗闇を侵害光の様に闇の王国を押し戻し、地獄の門を普及させません。神の国の力強い前進に耐えることが出来ません。
But until that’s done and done, we find ourselves living as foreigners in enemy territory. And for that reason, we do not live as this world lives. We cannot live as this world lives. And our values are different from the values of this world.
でもそれができるまで、私たちは敵の領地に旅人として生きているということが分かります。そのため、私たちはこの世が生きているように生きません。この世が生きているように生きることができません。そして私たちの価値はこの世の価値とは違います。
The Scriptures warn against “sinful desires, which war against your soul.” Honestly speaking, isn’t that how the values of this world work? Desires like materialism, lust, envy, jealousy, and greed are all around us and are constantly at work to take over our life.
”あなたの魂と戦う罪作りな欲望”に対して聖書は警告します。
正直に言いますと、それは、どのようにこの世の価値が働くかではないでしょうか？欲望とは、物質主義、情欲、ねたみ、嫉妬、欲張りは私達のあたり一面で 常に、私達の生活に関わります。
We ought to steer clear and keep our boundaries distinct. The Scripture further encourages us to “live such good lives,” even if the world “accuses us of doing wrong.”
私達は明確に操縦し、私達の境界を区別しておくべきです。聖書は、”そのようなよい生活を送りなさい”と励ましてくれます 、たとえ世間が間違ってると非難しても。
This identification to be aliens and strangers in this world is a call for us to live counter-culturally. Though this world may invite us to enjoy its fruits of materialism, lust, envy, jealousy, and greed, God calls us to be noticeably different and set apart in our pursuits and actions.
この世で旅人、寄留者であるということは、文化的観点とは逆に生きるという召しです。この世は、物質主義、情欲、ねたみ、嫉妬、貪欲の実を楽しむように私たちを誘いますが、神は私たちが目に見えて違っており、追求することや行動において区別されることを求めておられます。
And ultimately, as the Scripture says, so that “they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” These words are reminiscent of Jesus’s teaching to his disciples on the mountain (Matthew 5:16).
最終的に、聖書は語っています、人々があなた方の良い行いを見て、神が私達に訪れる日に父をあがめるようにしなさい。これらの言葉は山でイエスが弟子達に教えを解いているのを連想させます。（マタイの福音書5章６節）
16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Conclusion
結論
Here at Minoh International Church, I believe that God wants to use us to be a Godly influence to our family, friends, neighbors, and community.
ここの箕面国際教会では、神は私たちを家族、友人、隣人、地域社会に神の良き影響となるように用いたいと願っておられると信じています.
I believe that’s why he’s grown our church. I believe that’s why he’s given us the increased physical capacity in the expansion of our building. I believe that’s why he’s given us the vision to go deeper in our faith and commitment through discipleship.
だから私達の教会を成長させるのだと信じます。だから神は私達に教会の建物の許容を広め増やして下さると信じます。
I believe that God wants to use each and every one of us to be a person of influence for his kingdom.
神は私たち一人ひとりを神の御国の影響を与える人として用いたいと願っておられると信じています。
One way we can do this is by understanding our identity as living stones, as a chosen people and a royal priesthood, and as aliens and strangers in the world.
私たちは、この世では生ける石、選ばれた種族、王である祭司、旅人、そして寄留者であるということを理解することによって、このことができます。
And by understanding our identity, may we, with God’s help, be faithful to serving God, serving one another, and serving our community.
