ヨハネの福音書 3:16
Introduction
John 3:16 can be considered the greatest verse in the Bible on the love of God. Its theme is the greatness of God’s love. “So loved” states that God’s love for us is infinitely great. The rest of the verse details this greatness. Here are the five (5) descriptions of God’s great love for us.
ヨハネの福音書3:16は，聖書における神の愛についての最も偉大な一節とみなすことができます。そのテーマは神の愛の偉大さです。「惜しまず与えるほどに愛してくださる」とは、私たちに対する神の愛の限りない大きさを表しています。残りの節では、この偉大さについて詳しく述べています。ここに，私たちに対する神の偉大な愛についての5つのことが書かれています。

THE OBJECT OF GOD’S LOVE
神の愛されたもの
“For God so loved the world.” Literally, “This is how or this is the manner God loved the world.” The “world” is the object of His love. It refers to all the people of the world. God did not wait for humans to turn to Him before He loved them. He loved and gave His one and only Son to the world when it was still mired in sin.
福音書には「実に神は，ひとり子をさえ惜しまず与えるほどに，この世界を愛してくださいました」とあります。これが，神の愛の示され方です。「世界」が神の愛の対象なのです。神は，私たち人間が神のもとにひざまずくのを待つまでもなく，ご自身の愛をお示しになりました。人々がまだ罪のぬかるみから抜けられないでいても，神は人間を愛し，そのひとり子をこの世に遣わされたのです。
No area of love is so vast. It includes everyone be they good, bad or indifferent. It includes people of every color: brown, red, yellow, black and white. No love has embraced so many as God’s love. That shows the greatness of His love. Jesus said:
このような広大な愛は，他にはありません。神の愛の対象には，良い人も悪い人も，無関心な人までも含まれるのです。あらゆる肌の色の人が含まれます。これほどまでに多くのものを包んでくださる愛は他にありません。神の愛の偉大さがここに現れています。『ルカの福音書』6:32-34でイエスは言われました:
If we love a few neighbors, relatives, friends and most of our family, we think we are filled and overflowing with love. But compared to the encompassing object of God’s love, we have not even begun to love.
隣近所の人や親戚，友達や家族に対して愛情をもつとき，私たちは自分が愛にあふれているように思うかもしれません。しかし，あらゆるものを包み込む神の愛と比べれば，私たちの愛は始まってさえいないようなレベルに過ぎません。

THE EVIDENCE OF GOD’S LOVE
神の愛の証
“That He gave.” Giving is the evidence of any love. If you love you will give. And how and what you give shows the character of your love. The greatness of God’s love is seen in the fact that God gave the most precious thing He could possibly give, namely, His one and only Son.
「神はお与えになった」。与えること，それはどんなときも愛の証です。そして，どのように与えるか，何を与えるかは，あなたの愛がどのようなものであるかを示します。神の愛の偉大さは，神の与えうるもっとも特別なもの，すなわち神のひとり子をお与えくださったという事実に現れています。
This describes both the expression and the gift of God’s love. God’s love didn’t just sympathize for the predicament of a fallen world. God acted; He did something about it; and, He gave the most precious gift to give: His one and only Son.
この箇所は、神の愛の表現と贈り物の両方を表しています。 神の愛は、堕落した世界で苦境に立たされていることに対する同情ではありませんでした。 神は行動したのです。神がなさったこと，それはもっとも特別な贈り物を与えることでした。神は，そのひとり子を遣わされたのです。
When God gave Jesus, it means He had to die. In fact, the most horrible kind of death – death on the cross.
神がイエスをお与えになったとき，それはイエスの死を意味しました。実際，最も恐ろしい亡くなり方をしたのです――イエスは十字架にかけられて死なれました。
Comparing your giving with what God gave may not give much substantiation of your love. You may talk of your love, but does your giving indicate that you really love God? If you love God you will be generous in your offering. Real love gives generously.
あなたがこれまで人に与えたものは，神が与えてくださったものに比べれば，あなたの愛を十分に実証できるものではないでしょう。あなたは愛について語るかもしれませんが，あなたの「与えること」は，神に対する愛を本当に表せているでしょうか？神を愛しているなら、献金にも寛大になれるでしょう。本当の愛は惜しみなく与えるものです。
A pig and a chicken were walking down the road. As they passed a church, they notice that a potluck [I don’t believe in luck so I’d rather call it pot bless!] charity breakfast was under way. Caught up in the spirit, the pig suggested to the chicken that they each contribute.
例え話をしましょう。豚と鶏が通りを歩いていました。教会を通りかかると，持ち寄りのポットラック・ブレックファーストの準備が進められていました（ところで，「ポットラック」は「運良く鍋に残っていたもの［の持ち寄り］」のような意味ですが，私は「運（luck）」というものを信じないので，「運の持ち寄り（potluck）」ではなく「祝福の持ち寄り（pot bless）」と呼びたいところです）。精霊の声に感化された豚は，お互いに何かを寄付しようと持ちかけました。
“Great Idea!” the chicken cried. “Let’s offer them ham and eggs!”
「素晴らしいアイディアだ！」と鶏は叫びました。「それじゃハムと卵を捧げよう」
“Not so fast,” said the pig. “For you, that’s just a contribution, but for me, it’s a total commitment.”
「そりゃやりすぎだ」と豚が言いました。「卵だったら，ただ差し出せばいいかもしれないけど，ハムを差し出すってのは，私にとっては全てを捧げることになるんだよ」
If you think you are giving well, check your giving with what God gave. He was fully committed! And, that will give us perspective on our giving as well as on our loving.
自分は十分に人に与えてきた，と考えているなら，神がお与えになったものと引き比べてみてください。神は全てを与えてくださいました！神の御業を意識すると，自分にとっての「与えること」や「愛すること」について，よりよい見通しを得ることができるでしょう。
“We can give without loving but we cannot love without giving.”
「愛なしに何かを与えることはできますが，その逆はありえません。与えることなしに愛することなどできないのです」

THE WISDOM OF GOD’S LOVE
神の愛という英知
“He gave His one and only Son.” God gave the gift we needed the most. With His heavenly riches God could have given us anything, but with His love, He gave just the right gift.
「ひとり子をさえ惜しまずお与えになった」。神は私たちがもっとも必要とする贈り物を与えられました。神のみがお持ちになる豊かさをもってすれば，私たちに何でも与えることができました。しかし神は愛をもって，まさに私たちに相応しい，正しい贈り物をなさいました。
No other gift matches the wisdom of God’s gift of His Son to us for our salvation. No other gift from God would be so beneficial, so appropriate as the gift of His Son. Love is discerning and wise. True love finds the right gifts for the one loved.
私たちの救いのために与えられた神の御子という贈り物，その神の英知に匹敵する贈り物は他にありません。神からいただくどんなものでも，これほどまでに適切で意味のあるものはないでしょう。愛は見識があり，賢明です。真実の愛が、愛する人にふさわしい贈り物を見つけるのです。
Husbands, do you find it hard to choose a gift for your wife? I hear you. And, so does one who gave this advice on “What Not to Buy Your Wife”: Although the only person a man usually shops for is his wife, the whole experience is potentially a stressful one. Many have experienced the “cold treatment” for a long period based on a poor gift choice. Here’s a list on what not to buy her:
夫である方にお聞きします。みなさんはパートナーへの贈り物選びを難しいと思いますか？気持ちはわかります。「買うと地雷を踏むものリスト」なんていうアドバイスをする人もいるでしょう。通常，夫が買うのは妻のためのプレゼントであることが多いですが，おそらくすべての経験がストレスの多いものだろうと思います。多くの人は、贈り物の選択肢が少なすぎて苦労します。「プレゼントを買うのにやってはいけないことリスト」をここに挙げましょう。

Don’t buy anything that plugs in. Anything that requires electricity is seen as utilitarian.

Don’t buy clothing that involves sizes. The chances are one in seven thousand that you will get her size right, and your wife will be offended the other 6999 times. “Do I look like a size XL?” she’ll say. Too small a size doesn’t cut it either: “I haven’t worn a size XS in 10 years!”
サイズが関係する服を買わないこと。あなたがパートナーのサイズを正しく把握する可能性は7千分の1ぐらいしかありません。つまり6,999回は不愉快にさせるということです。サイズが大きすぎると，パートナーは「わたしXLサイズに見える？」と言うでしょう。逆にサイズが小さすぎればこう言うでしょう。「XSなんてもう10年も着てないわ！」 -
Avoid all things useful. The new Roomba, an autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner, advertised to save hundreds of hours is not going to win you any brownie points.
何かの「役に立つ」ものは避けること。自律型ロボット掃除機ルンバの新製品は，これを使えば何百時間も節約できると宣伝されています。しかしルンバでは点数稼ぎはできません。 -
Don’t buy anything that involves weight loss or self-improvement. She’ll perceive a six-month membership to a Curves or Anytime Fitness as a suggestion that’s she’s overweight
ダイエットや自己改善を強いるものは買わないこと。フィットネスクラブの6ヶ月会員チケットなんかだと，君は太りすぎだ，とパートナーに伝えることになってしまいます。 -
Don’t buy jewelry. The jewelry your wife wants, you can’t afford. And the jewelry you can afford, she doesn’t want.
宝石を買わないこと。パートナーが望んでいる宝石は，あなたにはきっと手が出ないでしょう。逆にあなたが買えるくらいの宝石には，相手は興味がないでしょう。 -
And, guys, do not fall into the traditional trap of buying her frilly underwear. Your idea of the kind your wife should wear and what she actually wears are light years apart.
フリルの下着を買うという伝統的な落とし穴にはまらないこと。あなたがいいと思うものとパートナーが実際に使うものとの間には，深い深いギャップがあります。 -
Finally, don’t spend too much. “How do you think we’re going to afford that?” she’ll ask. But don’t spend too little. She won’t say anything, but she’ll think, “Is that all I’m worth?”
お金を使いすぎないこと。パートナーにきっと「私たちにこんなものを買う余裕があると思う？」と言われます。ただし，金額が少なすぎてもいけません。何も言ないかもしれませんが，心の中で「私ってその程度の価値しかないの？」と思うことでしょう。
In John 3:14~15, Christ points Nicodemus to the OT, particularly Numbers 21:4~9, the account of the snake made of bronze. The venomous snakes were biting the Jews and killing them, and the curious solution to the problem was found when Moses made a bronze snake! Looking to the serpent in faith brought healing.
ヨハネの福音書3:14-15では、キリストはニコデモに対して，旧約聖書の民数記21:4-9にある青銅でできたヘビに関する記述に触れられています。当時，毒ヘビに噛まれてユダヤ人たちが命を落としていました。そしてモーゼが青銅のヘビを作ったとき，その問題に対する興味深い解決策が見つかったのです。信仰をもって青銅のヘビを見ると，傷ついた人がみな癒やされたのです。
Similarly, Christ was made sin for us, for it was sin that was killing us. As we look to Christ by faith, we are saved. Brass symbolizes judgment (Deuteronomy 28:22~23), and Christ experienced our judgment when He was lifted up on the cross.
キリストは私たちが負うべき罪を代わりに負い，そのために死なれました。ユダヤの人々が信仰をもって青銅のヘビを見たように，信仰をもってキリストに目を向ければ，私たちは救われます。真鍮は聖書において神の裁きの象徴です（申命記28:22-23）。そしてキリストは十字架で持ち上げられたときに私たちに対する裁きを経験なさいました。
Christ had to die before men could be born again; His death brings life. What a paradox! And yes, He’s the gift we all need.
私たちが再び生まれるその前に，キリストは死ななければなりませんでした。 彼の死が命を吹き込んだのです。なんて逆説的なのでしょう！だからこそ，キリストは私たち全員が必要とする贈り物なのです。

THE GUARANTEE IN GOD’S LOVE
神の愛が保証するもの
“That whoever believes in him shall not perish.” Love protects the one that is loved. And the guarantee God gives is the best protection of all, for it is spiritual salvation. It is our permanent protection.
「信じる者は滅びない。」愛は愛される人を守ります。そして、神が与えるその約束は、すべての人にとってもっともよい守りとなります。なぜなら，それは霊的な救いだからです。それは私たちが永遠に守られるということなのです。
But sinners have to believe. God loves people so much, but they don’t receive or benefit from that love until they believe in Jesus, the gift that the Father gave. To believe in Him means much more than intellectual awareness or agreement. It means to trust in Him, to rely on Him, and to cling to Him.
しかし、罪人は信仰しなければなりません。神は人々をとても愛していますが、わたしたち自身が，天なる父のお与えになった贈り物であるイエスを信じるまで、その愛や恩恵を受けることはできません。神を信仰するということは、知的認識や合意以上のものを意味します。それは神を信頼し、神に頼り、神にしがみつくことを意味します。
Faith in Christ is the only means of salvation. God’s command to Moses in Numbers 21:4~9 was not that he kill the snakes, make a soothing ointment for the wounds, or try to protect the Jews from being bitten.
キリストへの信仰は救いの唯一の手段です。民数記21:4-9のモーセに対する神の命令は蛇を殺すことではありませんでした。傷を癒やすような軟膏を作ることでもなければ，噛まれないようにユダヤ人を守ろうとすることでもありませんでした。
It was that he hoisted the brazen snake and told them to look by faith. Not to look meant condemnation; faith meant salvation.
神が言われたのは，モーセが青銅のヘビを竿に巻きつけて高く掲げ，彼らに信仰をもってこれを見るよう言うことでした。見ないことは有罪の判決を意味し，信仰は救いを意味していました。

THE DURATION OF GOD’S LOVE
永遠の神の愛
“But have eternal life.” God’s love transforms life. The greatness of His love is seen in the greatness of the life He provides. The love we receive among people may fade or change, but God’s love will never change. He will never stop loving His people, even unto the fullest extent of eternity.
「だれ一人滅びず、永遠のいのちを得る」。神の愛は人生を変えます。神の愛の偉大さは，神がくださる人生の偉大さに現れます。私たちが人々から受ける愛は色あせたり変化したりしますが，神の愛は決して変わることがありません。神は民を愛することを決して止めません。その愛は永遠に終わることがないのです。
This life is not a second-rate life, but is the best life of all. Additionally, the life He gives is eternal life. It will never end. This is how great the love of God is.
神に愛される人生こそ，すべてにおいて最高といえる人生です。さらには，神がお与えになる命は永遠の命です。決して終わることがありません。神の愛の，なんと偉大なことでしょうか。
Do not refuse God’s love. Receive it this Christmas. Receive it even now.
神の愛を拒まないでください。このクリスマスに，神の愛を受け取ってください。クリスマスと言わず今この場で，神の愛を受け取ってください。
Conclusion/Application
Christ’s sacrifice and God’s love, in cooperation with man’s faith, makes the new birth possible. There is Christmas “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
キリストの犠牲と神の愛は，人間の信仰とあいまって初めて新しい誕生を可能にします。もうすぐクリスマスです。「実に神は，ひとり子をさえ惜しまず与えるほどに，この世界を愛してくださいました。それは，神の御子を信じる者が，だれ一人滅びず，永遠の命を得るためです」（ヨハネの福音書3:16）。これがクリスマスなのです。
